Spotify's HiFi tier could finally be about to launch

I'll believe it when I hear it!  I enjoy their software/interface so I am hoping this rumor is true.   https://www.whathifi.com/news/spotifys-hifi-tier-could-finally-be-about-to-launch

Checked this morning. My account has it now. Might check it out tonight.

@mofojo 2 of my friends also confirmed this afternoon that they got the Lossless. Did you get a chance to listen on a good system/headphones (wired)?

Yeah it sounds fine. Slightly better than the 320 they were capped at before. Qobuz still sounds punchier to me.

Just got Spotify lossless and compared to Roon with Qobuz and Qobuz directly. First test was just with my AirPods. I expected them to sound the same since it is Bluetooth lossy. Not so! Spotify was duller with a collapsed sound stage and poor dynamic.

Switched over to my highly resolving 2-channel system, and compared Spotify to Roon with Qobuz.

Immediate conclusion with both standard and high resolution tracks is Spotify Lossless is awful, full stop. In every conceivable way it was worse than Roon. Bass was blotted, poor dynamics, collapsed sound stage, 2D, poor instrument separation, etc.

Cancelled Spotify again. Just terrible.

I was hoping it would be good because I like its music selection features, SQ is lousy.

Finally got my lossless today. Small but discernable expansion of soundstage; performers seem a little separated. Not as good as Tidal. Whether it was worth waiting five years for remains to be seen.
