Thankfully I learned the importance of room acoustics and proper speaker set up many years ago.  Upgrading gear has always come in second place to that.

Ugh… I actually feel bad for Jay’s Audio (the component manufacturer) with their unfortunate name choice in this day of google.

I wonder how many people think that guy is part of their organization.

Thanks for the entertaining read. I came to similar conclusions only within the last couple years. Definitely made a few costly and audio-foolish mistakes along the way. There are good reasons for why it’s called “Pro Audio.” 

These days I use a $320 streamer/DAC/preamp. Total retail of my current system amounts to only $9K, but it performs better than all previous compilations I’ve assembled. Speaker transducers and room treatment provide the most ROI by far. Everything else isn’t remotely close. 

 

Jay's Audio Lab has a $300K DAC. Is that the new portal to Audio Nirvana?

Well of course…that is until he gets ahold of a $400K DAC.
