Have the itch yet again. $5-6k budget for floorstanders.

Well I've owned around 20 floorstanders over the last 30 years. Ridiculous I know but for me that's the hobby: trying new gear every 1-2 years. Anyhoots currently have Zu DW6 Superfly in my main rig, Wharfedale Evo 4.4 in the small TV room. Have both tube & SS amps I rotate. Yesterday I sold my SVS Ultra Tower (the prior version) ergo gots me thinking, so fun to go shopping, no? I listen to mostly jazz, on vinyl & via Qobuz. Some beats also (downtempo/chill). I used to rock out  but nevermore. Prefer to stay under 100lbs; not getting any younger. I do have a SVS sub the SB 2000 pro btw.

Here's my short list:

  • SVS Ultra Titan
  • MOFI 888
  • Dali Opticon 8
  • Cornwall IV (rich buddy downsizing)
  • Goldenear T66 (owned the orig Triton One way back 2013, dug them, had to downsize for a move)
  • Dyn C2 (wildcard, never heard em, wish I could audition)

Anyhoots, who wants to chime in?

zufan

i like the Cornwall you have listed

if that is the sound you like, then go for that speaker

@zufan

You have picked speakers than are all over the map in sound characteristics. @erik_squires is right about Dali & Goldenear , and the Klispch are in a world all their own. Depending on your room and power, they are great for jazz and you’ll definitely be glad you have the 2000 Pro! ( that’s the sub I have also)

There’s a review on New Record Day (YouTube) of the Legacy Signature SE speakers you might want to check out and there’s a pair on USAudiomart now for $6K.

One question, Why’d you get rid of the goldenears and put basically the same speakers on your list?

All the best.

Just saw these ProAc D30Rs and at $4500 they’re well in your price range.  I’d put these high on your list to check out…

Also agree Sonus Faber would be a great option, and if you can stretch a little these Olympica IIIs are worth a look…

Personally I’d be all over those ProAcs!

@curiousjim yeah re the Triton One, after a year of enjoying them I moved from MN to NC for a girl, from my house to her condo building. Then we had ugly breakup soon after of course (she was a nitemare human, also a surgeon with god complex big time), I moved into a loft. Sold them for KEF Reference One, still miss those.

Re Legacy, I owned the Focus HD before the Tritons, giant beasts 225 lbs. Legacy sound I dig but they’re way too heavy for me now, even the smaller models.

@gramophone_canada I owned both the Fyne 501 & 502 in the last 5 years. Dug them both a lot. The smaller ones more, oddly.

@connollymj yes big fan of TMR. Bought many items from them. Sold my Tannoy Cheviot through them 4 years ago after a move to a much bigger house. The Dyns in my OP are an advert from there. They always have good stuff & they’re fully legit trustworthy. Eyeballing these Wharfedale on TMR atm also.

Tomorrow I’m auditioning the MOFI & the Dali at Hifi-Sound in Minneapolis, will report back after. They're where I bought my Wharfedale. Really great owner.

Thanks everyone for your most excellent feedback & ideas!

Since you are already in the Wharfedale universe, you should consider the Dovedale 90th Anniversary speakers. Not tower speakers, but you’d never guess that from the performance.
