I found the search to be more or less continuous for the first few years. I then adopted the strategy of reaching as far as I could financially... and assembling the very best, synergistic system I could afford... typically taking two years. First components, then interconnects, then vibration control. Then my focus would drift to music and I would enjoy it for around seven years until again, I would start getting anxious. My rule is 2x investment as a minimum. So in the seven years or so my financial status had improved so I could double my investment. I would also be exhausted from the hundreds of hours of research, breaking, and decision making that went into the upgrade.
Well that has worked for me, for the better part of 50 years... keeping any yearning out of the picture for most of the time.
