Tekton Design Moab

I've just sat again with my Moabs, with woofers ranging a neat 7'10" from my left and right ears, and the drum work on a variety of my jazz pieces arrives, in a word, "whole," with no evidence of bass note separation in the woofers of each channel. The top woofers are about 2" further away. Very much alive sounding.

I did spend many hours cumulative over the first five weeks moving the speakers around, dialing in the bass. They now sit 40" out from the back wall, and about 2' from each side wall, in a 14.5' by 12' room. Standing the spiked speakers on two Ikea bought bamboo cutting boards brought considerable shape to the bass octaves, and the bass feature was a serious concern of mine given the modest size of the room. Did not like moving the 135lbs/each around the room and I could have made it easier with a little more planning. I sort-of wrestled the right one up on the cutting board and was fortunate not to make a mistake.

The point is that the effort/expense/choice has resulted in sound quality that leave me saying to impending owners that I don't want to say (much of) anything to influence initial impressions for anyone else...

In sum: I'm having more than a small amount of "good times" almost every evening... 

These speakers remind me of Revox BX 4100.

@charles1dad I almost ditched the Thiel 2.3’s, bryston 4bsst, and a PrimaLuna prologue 3 for the Woo WA5 with an old pair of fairly cheap Acoustic Research 308 HO’s. The latter is 1/2 the price of the former. It was my first taste of SET in a 2 channel set up.  It left quite a pleasant aftertaste!  Did not even bother hooking up the 300b to the merciless Thiels.  Certainly the best headphone amp I ever listened to. Can’t wait to hear the SET amp with the Moab’s! Sarah McLachlan’s “gloomy Sunday” will be my gold standard test. I suspect I will be an full SET convert. Currently using genalex 300b’s, as I have worn out my Sophia 300bc’s. Would love to get the majestic EML 300b-xls! Maybe the xls will improve on the poor power ratings JA gave it on Stereophile.

MC, I give you credit for bringing in a pair of 135 lb previously unheard loudspeakers for a trial period. Pressure’s on to like them lest they require re-crating and return shipping expense. Odds are with you, but still...

You don't know the half of it. Odds are the Talons will be sold before the Moabs arrive. Also pretty sure only the standard version speakers are eligible for return. These will be optioned out, probably too much to qualify. It has me a little concerned. But only a little. 

Back in the beginning, 1990's, I was a solid believer in never buying anything I hadn't heard first heard in my own home. I went to great lengths to home audition everything. My ARC PH3SE phono stage was only bought after trying nearly a dozen phono stages at home. I did buy the Talons without home audition, but heard them first at a dealer and with a system I was very familiar with. 

But for well over a dozen years now since my dealer retired I have come to rely on the interweb. Since then I have become very adept at reading reviews. So much so that even with something like my DIY DBA that was built not bought it completely exceeded all my expectations. Koetsu, Herron, Synergistic CTS and Euphoria, HFT, ECT, PHT, fuses, TC, Omega Mats, eCards, even fo.Q tape- each and every one of these has performed exactly as expected, and usually much better than expected. 

But there is another reason I don't worry overmuch. Its on my system page. The ideal component does nothing. Its not there. It neither adds nor subtracts. No component ever really meets this perfect ideal, but that is the standard. Everything I've done for some 30 years now has been with that standard in mind. Never once have I bought one thing to go with or match or compliment or integrate with another. Its simply not the way it works. 

So all the Moabs really have to do is... nothing. And my system will do the rest.
