Problem reinstalling Ayre qb-9 DSD

I am using a windows 7 server which worked fine with the unupgraded qb-9. Just got the upgraded unit from Ayre and I can't install. I get no functional drivers in the computers control panel/sound/manage audio devices. In the sound panel I see a "Conexant smart audio HD not plugged in" icon and that's all, whether the ayre is plugged in or not. Diagnostics show the Conexant driver "working properly" just not plugged in. From the Ayre instructions I should be seeing the Ayre driver show up in this panel or some other functional driver.
I have swapped out PCs and USB cables and get the same results. I remember installing the qb-9 two years ago and the Ayre driver appeared in this window. Now it doesn't. The Ayre itself just sits there with three blue bars that go off and on when I plug and unplug the usb cable. I am still in the Rev A mode so am not even attempting (yet) to put this thing into Rev B DSD mode till I can get it to talk to the computer.
OBTW the Dell computer is not used for anything but music so the only programs I have on it are iTunes and JRiver. It was not touched used or configured or turned off when I removed the qb-9 for upgrade. Yes I rebooted a few times trying to diagnose the install problem
Last question...How do I determine if my i3 Dell PC has USB2 ports? I have no manuals and it appears the Rev B functionality will not work with usb1 interfaces

Please call Ayre at 1.303.442.7300 and ask them. Their customer service is excellent.

Try it in B. You can't hurt anything. I would also go into your bios and look at your usb settings.

It would probably be a good idea to try the DAC with a different computer. If you can't use a different PC, download a live Linux distro and see if that works. You shouldn't need a driver for Linux.
