Anyone use Apple TV remote for preamp volume?

I recently acquired an Ayre K-5xe preamp, but it unfortunately didn’t come with a remote.  My 4th generation Apple TV remote can apparently be programmed to control the volume of a receiver. I assume that it would also work for a preamp, but wonder if anyone has tried this.  I would need to find an Ayre remote to borrow for this programming process, so hope to have a good idea it works before tracking one down!

You should reach out to Ayre, maybe they can help you with the technical details. I would be interested in getting the apple remote to work.
I think the programming should be pretty straightforward- this is from Apple's site:

Program your remote for volume

If volume control doesn’t work automatically, you can manually program your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote:

On your Apple TV (4th generation), go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Volume Control.
Select Learn New Device.
Follow the onscreen steps to program your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote to control volume for your television or receiver.

I believe it then instructs you to aim your (preamp) remote at the Apple TV unit and press the volume up and down buttons, for it to learn their IR codes.

please let me know if you try it, or if others have gotten it to work. It sounds pretty slick.
My preamp (Linear Tube Audio MZ2-S) came stock with the Apple remote. It works fine.

Lancelock- very interesting, thanks for letting me know. Does the Apple remote control  anything other than volume for the unit?
