Custom Faceplate Source?
Front Panel Express will do a quality job, but you have to use their software to input all of the details (hole locations and size, lettering, etc).
Do WBT spades need break in?
Yes, the spades need break in.  A few years ago I experimented with different types of Cardas spades, and each set changed as it accumulated more hours.  I don't see any reason why WBT would be different.  Give the spades at least 100 hours of pla...

One of my all-time favorites.
Preamp Output Capacitor: Mundorf Supreme vs. Supreme Silver Oil
If I am going to be in a minority, I don’t mind having Ralph from Atmasphere in my corner.  Over the years I have noticed that Ralph’s observations often agree with my own.  That said, I am not sure I agree with Ralph’s implication that problems w...
Preamp Output Capacitor: Mundorf Supreme vs. Supreme Silver Oil
Not everyone agrees that a small bypass cap improves sound quality.  I have tried bypass caps in all sorts of applications going back literally 40 years and I haven’t found a single instance where the bypass improved sound quality.  The bypass cer...
Preamp Output Capacitor: Mundorf Supreme vs. Supreme Silver Oil
You're right!  That should teach me to do math in my head.  I dropped a digit.  Of course that makes the issue of the value of the cap even less significant sonically.  With tube gear where the input impedance is typically 100K or more, a 0.68uf c...
Preamp Output Capacitor: Mundorf Supreme vs. Supreme Silver Oil
The sound character of the particular output capacitor will have a much greater effect than the different measured cutoff frequency with a 100K load (23 vs 8 Hz).  For example, a Mundorf Silver/Gold/Oil sounds “thin” regardless of cutoff frequency...
Preamp Output Capacitor: Mundorf Supreme vs. Supreme Silver Oil
AG, not necessarily.  A 0.68uf cap into a 100K loaf will have a rolloff that is -3 dB at 23 Hz.  That is not going to sound “thin” on most systems.  The 2uf cap extends the -3 dB freq to 8 Hz.  There would be virtually no sonic difference between ...
Monoblock power amps same dedicated outlet?
You should certainly try it both ways—amps in single outlet vs separate outlets—-and reach your own conclusions.  Each system may react a little differently. In my system, using tube monoblocks, the sound with separate outlets is slightly brighter...
Denon DL-103 and Audio Note AN-S2 SUT problem
Is the SUT new?  If so it needs some significant playing time to break in, and it could easily sound bass shy in the early hours.  Also, if it is new, you presumably bought it from an AN dealer in which case you should discuss the problem with the...
Daedalus Ulysses
Falconquest, let us know what you decide to do.Not to derail things further, but I wanted to clarify that my 15" woofers are actually Jensens (the model used in the Jensen Imperial horn), not Altecs.
Daedalus Ulysses
I am not surprised that a number of Daedalus owners disagree with my characterization.  As I said before, many people love Daedalus speakers, but some do not.My suggestion is that you listen carefully to a pair of Daedalus speakers (any model) bef...
Daedalus Ulysses
“Plastic sounding bass” is a bit ambiguous I understand but that’s the term that pops into my mind when I hear Daedalus speakers.  “Synthetic” is another term.  Perhaps this relates to the cone material or perhaps to some unevenness in the respons...
Daedalus Ulysses
I just spent 30 minutes typing a post which disappeared when I tried to post it.  Grrrr!!  I will try again later.
Daedalus Ulysses
I have heard the Ulysses a couple times in different settings and other Daedalus models many times at shows, most recently at the CAF yesterday.  I would say the Daedalus sound is an acquired taste.  Some people love them; others don’t.  I am in t...
