Hi @au_lait , yes, that is the one!
Kondo AN silver tonearm wire
I’m having Analogmagik direct-wire my FR-66s, and I was planning on Kondo silver wires. Richard Mak is not a fan of working with this (and I know its difficult to work with) but has anyone had any experience with the anti-skating / resistance issue he mentioned here:
"Kondo Silver is very stiff wire, it is made by an OEM factory which I shall not disclose. It is not the best for FR application as it acts like an antiskating when it twist in the 90 degree turn. If you insist on using Kondo, I will put it in."

salectric, not to mention the advantage of eliminating the DIN connector itself from the signal path. What do you think are the "colorations" of other silver wires? I ask not because I have a contrary opinion, but if you put it to me, I would be hard pressed to say precisely what colorations there are. Similarly, the best copper wires also sound good to me. |
@lewm Just as different copper wires sound different, so do different silver wires. With that important caveat, many types of silver wire sound cool and reserved, with a recessed midrange, lean bass and slightly elevated top end. I don’t like that type of sound at all even though my favorite interconnect—Audio Note Sogon—has a minor bit of that flavoring. I don’t hear any of those colorations in the silver tonearm wiring Richard Mak uses. — |
I have bought a fare few Wire samples over the to. trial in Tonearms, Copper, Silver Plated Copper, but not Silver. Usually a Sheathed Wire @ 0.3mm is the max' diameter. The suppleness of the Wire is usually assessed by those I pass the wire on to. To date Copper has been my preferred wire and of the Copper Wire, PC Triple C Wire has been the one able to make a substantial impression, where the experiencing the Wire in use had a profound impact. To add to the conundrum,, and if being analytically critical, Silver Wire has proved itself to be a preferred coil winding over Copper. |
