Cry me a river
Unchained Melody gets me near every time. A while back I heard it done by some female singer(I wish I knew who) and it really tore me up, especially when she reached the higher octaves toward the end. Shivers, then- that soggy feeling.Funeral for ...
5 CD's on your current "permanent " rotation.
Mancini's 'Breakfast at Tiffani's', Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, Jorma Kaukonen 'Blue Country Heart', Allison Krauss & Union Station Live, and The Beatles Yellow Submarine- the later one with the compilation, not the soundtrack. All gre...
Cars R OK, but what kind of motorcycle do you have
Honda st1100 and a 1970 cb750. The 750 is really custom, I built it up in '82 with lotsa neat bits. Very fun to ride. The st is a great rider, it does everything sooo well it's a little boring...
The tweeter on my speaker has a crater...Help
Take your vacuum and hook up the hose attachement. Turn it on and very carefully approach your tweeter with the hose. Do Not Get Too Close! The vac will pull the crater out of a soft dome easily, a metal dome may be tougher...
"I am there" vs. "They are here"
Zaikesman-Thanks for the well written response. What an interesting thing; to plunk a live trio in the spot where your system would be! What a let down (in a way) to find prediliction towards the reproduced version. That really says something posi...
Stock Tubes on Cayin TA-30?
I dunno-Some Chinese tube I guess... Paul @ 2B said it's tough to improve on the stock tubes. I think he mentioned an Electro Harmonix el34 that worked well in the output stage. The stock 12au7 were good - and the JJ tesla ecc83 for the 12ax7.Ive ...
"I am there" vs. "They are here"
Subaruguru-In your post back in '01 you touched on a subject that I had been puzzling over for some time.Pinpoint imaging I felt would be the mark of an attractive 'I am there' sound. It turned out not to be the case for me. It seemed rather unnat...

Memories........What made you catch the Audio Bug?
I was exposed to Hi-Fi and live music from a young age, I thought all music sounded great until I heard lesser systems. Lucky me! My Dad was a cabinet and speaker builder in the Seattle area during the 60s and 70s. We had a system he built that we...
Cayin TA-30 thoughts...
A rather chunky old Sony Sacd 333 unit. The speakers are a DIY Dynaudio 52 model, with a 12" sub patterned on the Ariel. I find little use for the sub with the addition of the Cayin, but sometimes it gets powered up.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the ta-30.Having had mine for several months now, all I can say is it keeps getting better.I have only one real problem with the amp. After a late night of listening and having been completely melted into the sofa- it...
Regarding people selling equipment to U.S.A. only
You would think so.I just sold an amp on e-bay to an overseas buyer. When he found it would cost 250 US to ship he backed out and left me stuck.
Best Bike to ride before a good listening session
I live in Reno. The DS is blue. Your team SC must be a nice ride. The Rex is gorgeous- I should ride it more often.
Best Bike to ride before a good listening session
I really like my Della Santa road bike. Then again the Steve Rex is pretty nice too. On the other hand I love how the ol' Schwinn Paramount handles. Wait, the fixed gear is great fun... oh, and the recumbent is like riding a low rider. I need to g...
