Life without a remote
After some thought, my $.02Getting the right total system needs no remote. Some system needs up/down sound. If you get it right, one sound is all you need for most stuff. It sounds 'right'. Need more, turn it up. Most of the time I doubt I move it ...
help me pick a MM/AP BN reissue - for comparison
I'm going to suggest 4043 Speakin' my Piece. Of the set so far I find it to have the best music for my taste as well as the best life and balance in the recording/pressing. I think you can't go wrong with any of them, but if I were to duplicate ju...
CDP caused tinnitus?
Gerardff,I also have the low freq motor hum. This one comes and goes and I haven't yet figured out the cause. Feels like around 70-100 hz maybe. The issue I've most suffered is a high freq sound. I don't know the freq range, but seems like is more ...
CDP caused tinnitus?
Thanks for the ideas. I will try a different power source and see what happens. For the last few years I've had the cdp plugged into a BPI, I wonder if that could cause any problem here. Thanks for the tip
CDP caused tinnitus?
You have several good points here. I had considered that the dynamics may be different, possibly the high freq might accentuate it, or even the speakers were contributing. One thing I was interested in is if it were possible the cdp creates any em...
Considering going Vinyl--Please talk me out of it
I think you are making the right move. My best suggestion would be to browse thrift stores for 'starter' vinyl, and let your friends know they can bring over all those old records from the basement for your perusal. Pick only the cleaner albums an...
Live music, headphones, and speakers long
"Before I bought my MBLs I was actually actively looking for horns. May I ask which ones you have?"They are an old, well known driver, Altec 604D. The boxes are vintage solid teak ply built in Hong Kong in 1958. (I have the original receipt) They ...

"The following isn't by way of argumentation it is just more ramblings about locality or, better still NON-LOCALITY..."I think you hit the nail on the head here.A few years back I had a system that localized instruments. You could sit and point ou...
compliments
Thanks Paladin for the info. I don't know how my thread title got changed. The tube in question is not WE, tho it's not far off in price. Just out of warranty @13 months. I know for about seven months they only had 10-12 hours/week at most. To be ...
Is analog & vinyl anoying? Is it worht it.
Wow, many fine sentiments here. Worth it? That is up to the individual-yes? For my own self it is. I am able to enjoy many fine recordings from the vinyl era that are not on cd. Having access to thrift store finds and occasional other sources of c...
Western Electric WE300B glow and noise
I'll second the KR 300b tubes. Very high quality so far with about 500 hrs.
Help CDP over vinyl upgrade advice please
Thanks for the great feedback. I don't really have the mod capabilities- so that's out. A tube unit may be worth a try.I guess there's a butt for every cushion. The black background of cd is OK, but it needs the rest of the aural scene. Most of my...
Harbinger of the future of 2-channel?
Earbud.I dunno- all that comes to mind is some Orson Welles movie ;-)
Best 300b single-ended Tube amp. for the $
I think I may have it here.Recently off ebay I found a Spark/Cayin 300b single ended from about 1997 design , but this appears to have been a model year 2000 unit. I retubed it with a set of VAlvo e188cc vintage and a set of Sylvania 6sn7. The 300...
Any opinions on retubeing W/winged c or mullard re
I also have had poor luck with the Mullard reissues. One of four went bad and then another one of four- all this with less than 100 hrs. I'm using EI fat bottle and they have not had a failure- knock on wood. They sound pretty good too.
