Maybe it IS all in the DAC chips
@richardbrand - oversampling does not increase amount of information in the stream (per information theory) so although it helps somewhat, it does not eliminate need of the proper filter and there is always compromise between slope and phase linea...
Maybe it IS all in the DAC chips
It is not in the chip, it is in subsequent analog filters that are necessary and are specific to each chip type. DAC output requires brickwall filter, Nyquist is only true for time unlimited signal.
Things you did not know about what is inside your speakers and the Huge markups
Always educational to watch Danny from GR Research YT - how bad are components in $$$$$ speakers.
Changing audio beliefs
Bugs me that people believe that issues inherent to analog cables somehow translate to USB or Ethernet. Some people actually believe there is stream of bits from data server to their streamer....
Talk to me about CAT 6 in wall cable
From the Ethernet perspective either is fine. Any packets lost due to noise or anything get retransmitted and error corrected. Ethernet is not S/PDIF. Bandwidth is several orders of magnitude bigger than ever needed for audio data. Your SO watchin...
Speaker cables - cables make a difference
@dhite71 - what I mean is that S/PDIF connection does not provide any error correction facilities and hence it is subject to noise, jitter, clocking issues, etc.  USB is a computer interface that is designed to transfer data 100% reliably. Data g...
Do Audiophiles Hear Real Differences, or Are They Justifying Expensive Purchases?
Just note that actual recording studios do not employ things that audiophiles promote. Like $1000 power cables and such. For some reason pro studios are happy with $20 balanced runs and mundane power cables in really noisy envoronment. I wonder wh...
Thinking about simplifying to an integrated amp
Just changed Accuphase E-650 to Lyngdorf TDAI-2210 and cannot be happier. RoomPerfect is MUCH better than Dirac and makes tons of difference. I am pro-EQ.
Are you a keeper or a flipper?
Flip for a while until I am happy then keep gear for a decade or longer. Currently I finally settled on a new set after using previous for 15 years. Expect to remain happy for a long time.
He Who Hesitates…
Borrow it and see if it makes a difference for you. For the record, $$$$$ gear comes with pretty mundane cables. Even Nelson Pass said - we provide power cables that are fully adequate for our amplifiers.
Is headphone listening a primary or backup for you when listening to music?
High end headphones 90% of the time. And I actually have treated room and room correction. Still does not sound as good as in planar cans.
Speaker cables - cables make a difference
@dhite71 Just use USB. S/PDIF has effectively analog without error correction or lost packed retransmission. No one connects external hard drive over S/PDIF.
GR Research Allie speakers
I use Big Bullies with active low end and they are fantastic. I bought pre-assembled version.
Do Audiophiles Hear Real Differences, or Are They Justifying Expensive Purchases?
They are justifying purchases of cheap Linux computers aka 'streamers' for $$$$$ as well as cryogenically treated Ethernet cables.
LPSU foe modem and router - how important?
@fastfreight - and how exactly audio bits are different from Word document?
