Again the topic of weight of amps
@larrykell  I said that I couldn't physically handle a 185 lb. amp.  My current listening room floor can handle a 7.5+ earthquake let alone a few hundred pounds of equipment. My 1993 constructed prior home had a similar custom 6" slab with 2' exter...
A little History lesson on, "High- End" cables:
My comments concerning Masterbuilt cables were historical.  Masterbuilt adapted cables specifically for audio use from the military to my knowledge as opposed to just sell military cables.
Again the topic of weight of amps
I can barely move my 95 lb. Bryston BIT-20 isolation transformer.  I have to rock into place my Legacy Focus speakers at 185 lbs. when I moved.  I can't imagine owning a 175 lb amp although my floor is 12" 3000 psi reinforced slab which could hand...

Virgin vinyl is the primary reason Japanese LPs are so quiet.  I do not own more than a few MFSL pressings.  Originals often sound superior despite their higher record noise.  I'll take a V.S.O.P. reissue any day over an MFSL from the 80s.
A little History lesson on, "High- End" cables:
Jimski - I am a beta tester for almost 20 years for GroverHuffman.com cables.  He uses an air dielectric (patented) with flattened ribbon conductors.  The shielding is immense with a combo of copper braid dipped into a solidified solution made of ...
Again the topic of weight of amps
I bought an EAR 890 amp in 2006 and used it with an EAR 864 for a two years.  It sounded forward and bright on my Legacy Focus speakers.  With a custom high end pre-amp the 890 was rather thin sounding.  I replaced the pre-amp as well.  I moved th...

I have several MSFLs that are similar to many of my Japanese LPs where they look black/dark but when held up to a light, are almost transparent with an amber coloration.
Perfect Path Tecnologies ‘The Gate’
I just listened to Blues in Orbit last week.  I have 3 Omega E-Mats on 2 breaker boxes and no Gate.  I also experienced really wonderful 3-D soundstage with this ordinary CD.  Great sound, great performances.

I have 8 unused outlets in my dedicated listening room. 5 are among the 8 outlets controlled by the separate sub-panel audio wiring and the other 3 are just house panel power outlets for lighting. The rest of the house has about 80 outlets of whic...
Best Record Cleaning Fluid
I have used the VPI 16.5 for 37 years now.   Back in the 90s I used Torumat fluid with very good results, from Brooks Berdan, where I purchased my analog front end and cleaning machine.  Then an acquaintance Brian made a formula which included dri...
What Sonically is the Difference between a $1,500 CD Player and a $10K-$25K One?
My electronics/cabling manufacturing friend got a COS Engineering $3,000 DAC that blows away my EAR Acute which is twice the price.   It took about 13 years since I purchased my CD player for me to hear the improvement in a DAC since most under $5...
What Sonically is the Difference between a $1,500 CD Player and a $10K-$25K One?
itsjustme I agree.  What bothers me is that my London/Decca opera LPs sound so much cleaner/less distorted than the comparable CDs, most of them digitized in the 1990s (just compare the choral parts of Turandot/Mehta-the CD is distorted).  I don't...
What Sonically is the Difference between a $1,500 CD Player and a $10K-$25K One?
glupson - Correct that CDs don't fail very often, the laser is usually at fault. 1 or 2 out of 7,000 CDs made since 1984 have failed me. I make it a point to clean the laser every year (1,000 hours) or sooner. It makes a difference with 80+ m...
