How hot is hot when moving from class a/b to to a or tubes?
Define your description of what is "hot" to you?.   I'm re-evaluating this myself again recently. May be helpful to compare w/others. SS: My full-on Class A 50w solid state amp is said to be operating normally when you can hold your hand on the ...
How hot is hot when moving from class a/b to to a or tubes?
I use to think my two mono tube amps ran hot. Recently completed a custom full Class A 50w solid state amp build with the help of a local tech.  It runs even hotter. Hot is hot. We pay a small price and inconvenience for the sound - still think i...

Cable upgrade
@tonydec .. I’m just going through "itchitis," these speakers sound good, can I make them better? : ) Yes, as already suggested, give your speakers, drivers, woofer surround, crossovers inside - 200hrs a real chance to settle in. Everything is ...
My experience with the First Watt F7
Reading "lifeless" or "disconnected" sound type of comments and references come up once in a while in different amp threads, makes one wonder why. Solid state or tube. I was always curious wondering how this occurred for some, and not for others. ...
AR Classic 60 Bias Confusion
@perryg reading over the manual a bit, appears to be written more for a tech who's familiar with the basic procedure. Check this too - here is an older post on Audiogon worth browsing. There are varying references to different measurement values o...
Try This With Your SS Amp
Nice. Good fun for winter!   Some times I miss my old room heater, all 16 tubes of it.  Smaller tube monos, and a backup SS Class A amp replaced it on rotation.
Did the Old Receivers Sound Good?
I sold off all of my former mid to late 70s Sansui and Marantz units. A few years back thought I missed it. Went and bought a few Sansui and Marantz receivers, got them checked, aligned, ran them for a few months. Nice looking, fun to retry for a ...
My experience with the First Watt F7
I wonder if there was an impedance mismatch issue or something else weird going on here with some preamps/amp combinations used.  Looking at the different FW amps, most of the latest versions were at least 100k ohm input impedance. The F7 is 10k o...
PS Audio S300 amplifier- tube preamplifier recommendation
lmartinez_02170 OP @decooney thanks for the note. I did try the freya with an arcam sa10 (pass through used). It sounded very good too. Like I said, the "freya could be a great match for the s300". Maybe someday but for now I want to explor...
PS Audio S300 amplifier- tube preamplifier recommendation
@imartinez_2170 ..."I wouldn’t know as when I had it, I didn’t have the S300 and was rather using the Aegir.".   Referring to the type of sound you’ve shared, I’ve read pretty much the same comment by people about running ONE Aegir amp in ste...
Pass Labs Speaker Choices
@jaymark, doing something similar this weekend. KT120 mono tube amps rotated out (a rest) for my now upgraded Pass/Forte Class A 50w solid state amp. Was 200w Class AB, now full Class A 50w operation with several upgrades, main power caps, rectifi...

@mynameislarry its a 1.60 A circuit breaker on your TLS IIs.  --------------------------------- Glad to see you guys are enjoying your revitalized amt creations.  I worked there early 1980s, and still fiddle with them a bit.  Running scratch des...
Fantasy or reality? Inexpensive solid state preamps that get you 80% there?
@panerai557 ...However, more you read reviews, forums, and listen to other systems, your preferences will change and upgrade desire will start eating you from inside.   Or, one day you go and listen to someone else’s system or at a show where ...
Fantasy or reality? Inexpensive solid state preamps that get you 80% there?
@hilde45 would be fun to have Schiit send you a Saga and/or Freya to compare how far off it really is (or not) from your two tube line stage preamps and the DIY solid state unit you are testing now. Could be interesting 👍
