Boy, Oh Boy! Towshend!
I had a customer who made me some Harleyish floorboard inserts out of medium-hard rubber.  They work perfectly on my tile over concrete floor.  All equipment is next door in the ex-laundry room, with its two 110 volt 30 amp (10 gauge) outlets, con...
Stratospheric audio gear prices
One benefit of high prices is to keep the time wasters away from showrooms.  My local Audio/Video installation specialist is a Linn dealer, with a Plain Jane $25000 turntable that looks like its predecessor Ariston. The sticker shock will keep any...
So you think wire conductors in cables are directional? Think again...
jasonbourne52  As Martin Luther said a half milenea ago, Reason is the enemy of faith (in cables?).
Inheritance ($100K) with a caveat
A second A/C system for the giant Audio Research monoblocks on sale at West Palm Beach's Audio Advisors would be a start. Add the preamp and actual B&W Nautilus speakers, not the 800 series.    Whoops, I am out of money for the required extra ...
Uber expensive repair at United Radio
arcticdeth  I agree about these cars, but not just the expense.  My BMW's and Alfa's were beyond spending a fortune to keep them functioning properly.  They were just too much trouble to bother with.  I had the best audio repairman ever.  He desig...
Mega dollar systems. 200k on up. What are their professions?
Having moved from Tennessee to Boca Raton for college tennis, I was often invited to the Boca Hotel and Club to play.  It did not take very long to realize that asking the club members, especilly our northern Palm Beach friends,  what they did was...
Is D for Dry? Class D...
I recently auditioned a 100wpc Rotel integrated amp, with a Rotel CD player, with some $10,000 speakers that are a much newer version, but one model down from my own.  By its size, the amp must have been a Class D.  It also sounded very electronic...
Audire Diffet 1 hum
Make certain the power cords are plugged in polarized.  The Half of the cable with the grooves is the negative; the smooth one, the positive, i.e. small hole. I had a Diffet 1 and a Model 2.  Hum can be caused by nearly invisible corrosion on the ...
Drivers and how to clean them: Notes from ScanSpeak
Don't you put the grill covers on the speakers between uses?
What Is The Most Romantic Song That You Have Ever Listen To?
Dynamo Hum.  Yuk Yuk
Lack of Female Representation
There are also vastly more men discussing football than audio.
Favorite Guitar Solo
I challenge anyone to watch and listen to (On YouTube) to Roy Buchannon's Live from Austin cover of Hendrix' "Hey Joe", and then claim anything else!  I used to think that Stevie Ray Vaughn'sx cover of Hendrix' "Little Wing" was at least my favori...
What is your favorite album cover?
Way too many to list, but Maynard Ferguson's four impressionist covers of the 1960's were beaytiful.  Another interesting cover is Frank Zappa's Overnight Sensation, with its totally trashed hotel room, and a grapefruit on the floor with a hole in...
Does the Audio Industry Have a Quality Problem?
I assume that the biggest problem in audio build quality is what James Bonjiorno and David Hafler discovered, allowing the lowest bidder to build your stuff.
What’s a mistake you made by being impulsive?
My biggest mistakes were my first dedicated speakers, three way Fishers with 12" woofers, followed by a Crown IC150 preamp for my new Stacked Advents and Phase Linear amp.
