Pulled from old theater
My family's old theater had similar speakers.  The amp was a 30" or so tall,, maybe 15-18" wide and about  4" deep totally perforated Western Electric metal box.  Its tubes put out a then whopping 100 watts.
replace Mcintosh with Luxman
A long time ago, my local Audio Research dealer carried Luxman.  I think of it as akin to Linn:  Very good but not the best or the money.  Ditto Mac, but probably better than the former two.
Best kept secret in AC line filtering conditioning
Just what kind of crap do you people own that needs hum and noise reduced?
Critical oppositions made using inadequate equipment.
One audio guru, Nelson Pass of Threshold and Pass Labs fame, uses what most of us would deem to be really substandard speakers to test his changes.that his best sounding speakers do not. Even my current telvision speakers, B&W DM 14's I bought...
Power conditioning for multiple dedicated circuits
I hope you ran all four outlets to the same leg on your electrical panel. If not, do it.  You will be pleasantly surprised, and all it takes is to switch the breaker around. It is not even necessary to  remove any wires.  Just pop them out and re-...
PowerBall Lottery Winner
Like most "Destined: winners, take your proposed lottery ticket money and buy a good bottle of scotch, plus a little extra medicinal stuff.  This improve many systems more than any other tweak.  BTW, lotteries are for people who do not understand ...
Bass sensation like a loud car system in home?
I use a second electronics system, amp and pre-amp, to drive my excellent mains and  quality subs. Since both sets are driven by thr same models of amps and pre-amps, and since I measured and time aligned all of my speakers, it works great. an add...
I feel bad for GenX'ers that missed out on the 60s and 70s.
Wanna feel old?  "None of those crappy CD's or whatever kids call (them)".   Guess what?  Kids have no idea what a CD is.  Worse,  nearly all of the kids will be alive way after we are dead, and hopefully being composted for our favorite plants.  ...
So how much do you think the placebo effect impacts our listening preferences?
Anyone who does not believe in the placebo effect is fooling himself.  For me, much of the perceived effects of changes in systems from more expensive equipment can be attributed to this.   The investigators had 82 men and women rate the pain ca...
Speaker magnets
Did you folks know that a big sub magnet, juduciously placed,  will trigger a hotel safe to unlock it.
Parasound A21+ vs Adcom GFA-585se
I found a little Adom amp on craigslist.  When I put it in my main system, I was appalled, but it works very well as a television system driving B&W's It is the replacement for the Bryston that has now joined my main system.  It too is a bit o...
Rotel RA-1592 MK II or something else to deliver around 200W to B&W towers around $3000?
There are three used/demo, probably trades,  Rotel amps for sale on the West Palm Beach Audio Advisors website.   There is a lot of other stuff, too, from Audio Research, Mark Levinson, as well as a few of which are unfamiliar to to me.  200 watts...
List your breakthrough products that you’ve discovered on this audiophile Journey.
ROXY54 You think that ad is badly translated?  My first motorcycle, a 1968 350 Yamaha Big Bear had an amusing section in the owner's manual:   When describing what rpm to maintain to keep from fouling the two stroke plugs, it claimed that followin...
Power cord choice?
Once again, sales pitches from commissioned people are influencing buying choices.  I think the best person to consider for this advice is the designer of the product.  If he, or the bean counters, compromised on such a simple piece of wiring, you...
Who needs a Diamond Cantilever...? 💍
Who need this?  Anyone who thinks diamonds have an intrinsic value, rather than just being something to sell to pepole with too much money, who do not know how much these trinkets are marked up... after the near-slave labor harvests them.
