Best sub for music,
I repeat:  There is no best anything. There is no best car, quarterback, tennis player, nor especially, no best speaker or amp.
Best sub for music,
For once, I actually agree with millercarbon.  My subs are positioned to be and time aligned with my mains.  However, as I often state, THERE IS NO "BEST" anything.  It is all way too subjective.
What are the current useless terms in this "audio world"
Natural Sound
Manufacturers past their heyday
tomic601  Your comment misses the point.  The post does not ask why absolutely all older companies are passe.  It asks why some are.  I think that McIntosh is better than ever, but I am still not a fan.  I really lost interest when Bob Carver, Jul...
Manufacturers past their heyday
zavato  I have a concrete example of how something begins to lose relevance:  When the revolutionary B&W 800 was released, it was the pinnacle of speaker sound design.  Many recording studios immediately bought them, including Abbey Road and D...
A full range speaker?
millercarbon.  Like you, I do think that inaudible upper frequencies matter; however, I have a hypothetical question:  Is it possible that we do not necessarily know that our brains perceive this, and could these frequencies be used for directiona...
Best Preamp and Amp combination, interesting finding!!!
A great amp will reproduce, and increase  the horrors of a crappy preamp.
Speaker Cables? why all the hype for expensive speaker wire?
oldhvymec  "$17,000 cables vs $27000"   This is a perfect example of someone who is not happy with his system, and thinks that an extra $10,000 for wires might cure it.  I am sorry, but if you guys want to spend a small fortune on speaker wire, go...
Will the placement of casters on speaker stands degrade the performance
Despite no knowledge, I suggest you consider the effects of metal against metal bearings and other parts.  That cannot be a good thing. Maybe we could come up with something that is based on using damping fluid for tone arms.  I actually put a tee...
An Urgent Hypothetical!
I would sell all of that and buy what I like, because I live in reality.  You do dose pose an interesting set of mind experiments that have no meaning, because no one knows what everything there sound  like, much less the interactions.  I prefer t...
Clean AC power
AS an ex-pshrinck, I suggest you spend as much as possible, because you will need all of the placebo effect you can muster to miss any "noise".
Need emergency help please!
If I gambled, at least from the info provided, I would put my money on a blown amp.  My boy bought me a MegaBoom (III, I think) for my bike.  It does really well on jazz, and rocks enough, especially for a single, small driver.  The are about $200...
Do You Ever Find Yourself Unable to Listen To Your System?
Try to put on a channel of something where a person chooses the music, even if the quality of the sound is not perfect.  For me, it is XM jazz, channel 67.  Don't listen to the rig, but to the music.I do hope you can come to terms with your sorrow...
Vintage vs New
I'm sorry, but the Tekton Double  Impact looks as if it would sound truly horrible.  What is it:  A Bose 901 based on tweewers, rather than midranges, plus a bunch of subs? Jeez!  No one needs all of those 14  tweeters, unless he can't design one ...
Recommendations for speakers that sound great at lower volume levels.
There are a lot to choose from, but smaller speakers might be too inefficient.  Your power and speakers a a terrible mismatch.  You need way over your wattage for an 86 db speaker.  Get something in the mid nineties, if possible
