Fedex and Ups Damage thread
Yes @doyle they're nearly there. Crate in wood. All manufacturers' packaging of heavy hardware and nicely finished speakers should be wooden crates. The packaging for my 220lb Martin-Logan CLX Anniverseries was cardboard.  Disintegrated on the ...
Why do I need power management if I have a great power cord?
@holmz     "I assume that I do not need one because I have a lack of any noise/hiss etc when it is on, but not playing any music." Thank you Holmz, brilliant point, assuming you run it loud.  You are quite lucky if you hear nothing at all at top ...
Electric cars will ruin late night listening?
@pesky_wabbit  I did say mains powered generator, to avoid the air pollution and noise. But I'm sure you're right.  There are fools on here that would think the fuel could affect the sound.
Is system synergy worth having matched components?
No. For many years I have been using tube pres and solid-state power amps.  I like the nouanced presentation with the kick-ass speaker control. Not many manufacturers major on both.
Will I benefit from a subwoofer with 20Hz speakers?
Speaker manufacturers need to quote frequency range within decibel limits. If Cabasse quote 41Hz at the bottom end it might be -3dB or -6dB, or worse.  Whatever, at the usual rate of roll-off there will be nothing at 20dB.  If OP is hearing a sig...
Electric cars will ruin late night listening?
Over here in Europe a better question is whether there will be any electricity to run hi-fi and homes once hundreds of millions of electric cars have taken it all. Here in sleepy UK we haven't completed a large new power station for more than 25 ...
Schiit Freya + Class A in Stereophile
Some here are getting it all wrong. Reference to Stereophile April 2022:  "Class ratings are based on performance...[including performance on the test bench]." Nowhere is it suggested price or value for money have any relevance. This irrelevanc...
Tweaks, money pit or real value?
Nearly all money pits.  Not necessarily in principle.  It's just that suppliers mostly rip over gullible customers off.  $2500 for a mains cable, $250 for a fuse etc etc. I can buy a nice amp, or a turntable or.... for $2500.  Or do a meaningful ...
TT speed
In plain English the issue is expressed in less than two lines. I think OP refers to the old potato that with a pivoted arm the stylus follow an arc across the disc whereas a parallel tracker follows a radius. As did the cutter across the master...
90% loss of one speaker volume.
+1 @larryi  If only one driver is down, you may be lucky and have just blown a component on the crossover.  If you can DIY you could switch the crossover from the good speaker to test or just wire it to the down speaker with long wires to save re...
I miss my Loudness Button and Tone Controls....
Tone controls are good for two things: Fixing room anomalies.   Second best to fixing the anomalies. Letting you play record producer.  Probably only for kids.
The panic selling of tube audio had begun.
People who see markets as all in or all out affairs on a day to day basis rarely make any money. They are called day traders. A good call might be to sell all valve amps and buy rifles and toilet paper.
Speaker positioning: why do audiophiles neglect this so much?
@bobbydd  So you can determine bad set ups by looking at photos eh? A lucrative career awaits you as a remote system designer, undercutting all the others who need to listen in the room.  You could also set up as the equipment reviewer who decid...
Warning for Revel lovers
You are quite correct @bratscheboy  It is axiomatic that big companies are unable to deliver.  Why complain?  The owners of successful small companies aren't compelled to sell out.  They just want the dough.  They don't care what happens to their...
Class A or Class D solid-state amplifiers (modern designs)
Perhaps forget about 'technical performance' and configuration.  By 'quality' I presume OP means sound quality. That's what all of us are looking for, but it cannot be an absolute - each of us has different tastes in sound reproduction. So I sug...
