High quality CDs
@retiredfarmer  On the face of it, a pertinent question but remember I said the Chesky disc was far worse than other CDs.  So you can deduce the player paid other CDs satisfactorily. To answer your question the player was a Wada 16, an expensive...
The magic of outdoor listening
@tylermunns      No.  I said it to the people who play their equipment in the garden. I already said I agree with you.   @helmholtzsoul    It's you that should move.  To the desert.  But I agree with you about Yoko.  Maybe you'll find her there....
The magic of outdoor listening
@tylermunns  Stupid selfish notion by OP.  Quite agree about the noise pollution. You've got the right idea, but perhaps a touch OTT.  Selfish people should not be physically harmed but neighbours should have a legal right to smash their equipmen...
High quality CDs
The CD Red Book sampling rates simply aren't high enough. The standard was fixed in 1983 to be the bits that would give 80 minutes of programme and fit on a 5 inch disc at that time.  Since then storage capacity has increased exponentially.  CD sh...
I wonder what you would think if we scheduled a monthly Zoom Meeting?
Totally agree.  Very dumb idea.
Best custom photo acoustic panels
I guess the same can be done with $000,000,000 old masters. Who will be the first to have art in the listening room worth more than100 times the cost of the system?
Do you spend more time analyzing the sound of your system, worrying it could be better?
Listen to the music dammit.  NOT the sound. Lean back in your chair, put your feet up.  Relax, enjoy, and try to stop worrying.
Is my power chord going bad?
Dump the fancy cord and just use regular cord.
Power Cables and Wall Sockets
"The former case is a more of testamony like the Thomas (or what it another fellow on the road?.) The cable makers could show something happening with out just resorting to talk about the quantum world. @holmz  It was St Paul on the road to Dama...
Floorstanders vs Bookshelf
The room is only 13 feet wide.  We don't know where the system is located. If it is at one end of the 43 feet dimension then the driven space is much less as viewed from the perspective of the listening seat.  This would be more so if the speaker...
Why do folks spend more on electronics than on speakers?
I'm with @mrteeves  The only good reason for cutting back on speakers cost is in very small rooms where big speakers don't work well and small speakers are necessarily much cheaper. Don't ignore the cost of room treatments.  These can be just as...
Do larger planar speakers produce more accurate sound?
@erik_squires  You say in general panels are as flat as cones. F'rinstance Martin Logan CLXs are +-3dB from 56 to 23000 Hz.  How much flatter would you like? They sure sound good as well.  I have used panels for around 40 years now.  I don't mi...
What to play in the evening?
Same stuff as the rest of the time.
Vandersteen Speakers.. Are All Other Speaker Makers Doing It Wrong ?
Don't let this thread degenerate into 'speakers I like'. OP made a suggestion that is false.  There are many speaker manufacturers 'doing it right'.  Indeed some people don't like the Vandersteen house sound that can be described as idiosyncratic...
Thermal Distortion your loudspeaker most likely suffers from it. But do you care?
@johnk        Does thermal distortion affect only coil powered cone type drivers? If so, here's another good reason to go to panels. Does any cone speaker manufacturer include cooling to reduce thermal distortion?   @tubebuffer    Can anyone u...
