Phono Stage Upgrade
Glad that someone suggested being able to listen and return such an item. I am still surprised at the many different types or levels of performance. Then of course is the matching and hoping to get the magic that this venture can be about.   I am...
Need address to send Paypal credit/Synchrony Bank a demand letter
You are not alone, I have trouble with them too. Their robots cannot answer any question other than what is shown on the PP page, which I can see for myself. I get emails from them stating all kinds of crap. I quit paying PP credit with my PP acco...
TWO triple plinth turntables Music Hall mmf-9.3 review and cartridge comparison
Good presentation, and thank God for CC.
Post binding for crude tone control
I agree with finding another source for connecting the binding posts. The idea of tweaking things as a substitute for tone control(s), is a bit more vague in that you may get better music through a certain range, but not so much in other frequency...
Kef Reference Tweeters-Ferrofluid Replacement
Tiny touchy stuff, those tweeter wires. Broke one once, and was able to make just enough slack for solder. It was a miracle that it worked the first time.  Ferrofluid is added to the voice coil gap in order to damp the tweeter cone itself, not t...
Apples and oranges
I have had to pull away from the herd, as my hearing, tastes, and wives change.
Why does rock concert sound suck?
I never thought that it would happen, but I LEFT an Elton John concert right at the beginning! Loud was not word for it. Jet engine loud was a better description. I could feel the MIDRANGE bouncing off the wall. Too bad.    Went to a YES concert...
What are/were the best sounding cheap components you have ever had?
A friend of mine in FL buys 'bargains' quite often. Some of his methods bother me though, i.e. to go to a hospice where they do have sales from the people who once lived there. I would gladly give more than the product is worth, but not to 'steal ...
Where did you buy your first audio gear?
Off the back of a truck from a guy in the alley. Not kidding.
Balance control?
Good point. Our eyesight is not perfectly balanced either. In fact, each eye will also see very slightly different colors that are 'adjusted' by the brain.     Good point about the subs too. I only use one, and there is no doubt that it contribu...
Balance control?
If you already have a balance control in circuit, I say use it. I have the same problem but it is my room and my hearing combined. One slight difference added to another slight difference can matter. In some cases, speaker toe in may help.  Yah, ...
What’s your latest high-end audio purchase?
Got a pair of Audio Nirvana 8" neodymium coming in tomorrow. I like to experiment with drivers in different cabinets, and these will start out in a back loaded horn cabinet.  I may try them in a sealed enclosure, but the manufacturer doesn't recom...
What are/were the best sounding cheap components you have ever had?
Cheap chinsy. Yes, it is out there. Price conscious, inexpensive, less costly. It is all out there, but to demean and then ask for recommendations is a left-handed compliment at best. "Where did you get that suit, JC Penny? You look great in it." ...
MY SONIC LAB Cartridges
Billwojo has some keen observations about aluminum that get me thinking. I couldn't tell you which aluminum alloy was used in some of my bicycle frames. Considering that there are physical differences between one alloy and another, it seems reason...
Dynavector Cartridge Cabling
As frustrating as that is, you can at least 'correct' the problem when connecting the TT to your phono pre or other equipment.     The same type of thing gets to me about RCA connections either being way too loose or too tight. No standard ther...
