I there someone else like Jackie Leven?

Lately, I've been listening to a lot of Jackie Leven's music. I only found out about him by reading Ian Rankin's novels with Inspector Rebus. I wonder if there is any music of similar beauty and seriousness out there. Leven's "Ellegy for Johnny Cash" and "Shining Brother Shining Sister" have moments that connect with me more than other music out there. I also listen to Richard Thompson, Beth Orton, Greg Brown, John Stewart, John Prine, Steve Earle and the Subdudes, but these are more well known artists.

Try Nick Cave he is on another level than Jackie Leven imho.

Abbatoir Blues/Lyre Of Orpheus which contains his tribute to Johnny Cash called Let The Bells Ring or alternatively The Boatman's Call are good starting points for his music.

Might take a couple of listens but he is arguably "the" songwriter at his creative peak.
Thanks for the replies. I have enjoyed Nick Drake, Tom Rush and Eric Anderson since the 70's. I have also tried and liked Nick Cave's Boatman's Call and Murder Ballads. I have heard of, but not heard John Martyn. I will try to listen to John Martyn and tanita tikeram.
