What makes the biggest difference in sound quality?
If you take into account your room is a constant and suitable arena then for me speakers/amp interface is the biggest impact. Speakers first then amplification.
Technics SU-R1000 - Good but not the king of switching amps
Who had these technical expectations? And how would it manifest itself other than how it sounds?  Not sure if this is an ironic satirical stance? If the Technics sells it'll be on it's functionality, features, looks and sound. Won't be the measur...
Technics SU-R1000 - Good but not the king of switching amps
I have just bought one and it sounds great. I haven't done extended testing with the LAPC and a few reviewers say they can't tell the difference but I am sure with my speakers Zingali Evo Twenty there is more resolution with the option on.   The...
GaN based SU-R1000 Technics Integrated Class-D, review by TAS

GaN based SU-R1000 Technics Integrated Class-D, review by TAS
I'm going to hear this amp this week. Looking forward to it. Reviews have been pretty much universally great however the Hi-fi World one gave it a bit of a panning. Anyway will be interesting to hear how this sounds in my system.
'outboard' high end dac's
Not sure what the above gent means.....I have a Bryston BDA-3 and you can send DSD via SACD or files via the Oppo 105
Led Zepplin Mothership vs. hi-res vs. newest
Yes there may be other aspects on other discs but we are talking about Mothership specifically. That disc is heavily compressed.
Led Zepplin Mothership vs. hi-res vs. newest
I think it's how people react to compression.....I'll be the first to admit you can be seduced by volume and my take is that even a moderately expensive system if you are not atuned to compression it really probably only affects you subconsciously...
Led Zepplin Mothership vs. hi-res vs. newest
I can only talk about the CD versions but Mothership is pretty heavily compressed.I think the new issues are the best digital available-in my system the downloads are a tad better than the CD.
Why aren't Rush fans more audiophile-natured?
I was a Rush fanatic as teenager-as an old man I still buy their records and go to the gigs.My honest opinion is that the production on Rush's records are mostly mediocre and even the classic era stuff doesn't particularly shine.Maybe that's had a...
oppo's volume control
George I'm not following you the Osiris is an integrated amp that uses a passive pre-it also has a direct input to allow the Osiris to be used in say a home hi-fi set up. I've maybe not explained it correctly. As I understand it, there is not bit s...
oppo's volume control
Just an update on optimising my system. My Rega went back for a minor repair-a known fault on the On switch-it was jammed in-now back and fine. The combination of the Proac's and the Osiris is quite potent-it can get loud very quickly with the Oppo...
Luxman 505UX vs. Luxman 550AX Integrated Amps
I had a 505U and I got a pair of Proac D40R's....it seemed quite clear to me these speakers needed a bit more power and quality.I ended up with an ex-dem Rega Osiris-it did both jobs-more more slam but with quality and detail-this might not be the...
Best integrated amp for Harbeth SHL5s
I replaced an Ayre AX-7 with a Luxman L505U-it was clearly a better amp.
oppo's volume control
I think whatever the Rega Orisis does in direct mode badly inhibits the sound-it really doesn't sound right.Of course this is an integrated amplifier so it is probably not comparable to what might happen directly to a power amp.
