How AI fixed my Bryston integrated’s crashing problem
Okay…big breath. I have had amp crashing issues lately. So I relentlessly pursued this with AI. While it has stumbled along the way, and the path was long and circuitous, it has delivered me all the answers I need on a very complex topic. WARNING. It is very long over days. But I am posting it as it fully illustrates AI abilities and limitations in the sometimes very complicated world of audio. All of that is on full display here.
BTW, AI gave me the answers that Bryston tech support could not.

Yes yes it is a hot signal issue. I’ve learned to tame it. It’s not an amp issue. It’s how a pro piece w inherent hot signal interacts with my amp. And no, I don’t expect Mike at Bryston to know much about putting transformer balanced +4 dbu gear in his integrated tape loop. So I hold nothing against him. You have pulled me in the weeds. My point was AI was extremely helpful, no, critical to my understanding and preventing protective auto shutdowns. Yes AI got off on the wrong track but I was able to redirect it. And ultimately it got me where I needed to go. Now with Audience vs stock PCs I both attenuate and boost to keep line level. It works. Had a friend over today for 2 hours of listening. He said everything sounded fabulous. And not a single amp glitch let alone shutdown. THANKS AI! |
Remember, I have used Charter Oak PEQ-1 in my Bryston tape loop for over a decade. AI got me to understand finally that my upgrading all the PCs systemwide has triggered the increase in shutdowns, due to the safety mechanisms picking up quicker voltage swings. Faster power delivery equals more defensive shutdowns. Taming EQ output using the broad overlapping bands as opposed to master gain dials (which when turned down kills punch and dynamics) has now got the fully boutique cabled system sounding far better than it ever did before. I just have to dial the bands a little lower due to the more efficient power delivery. I will quote some of what AI said soon |
