Subwoofers - crazy upgrade!

I’ve read it for decades , every where. Never tried a sub

Till now.  What a shame!  This is amazing.  Just 1 hour

in my system and not fully broken in or calibrated. opens

Up the mains, deepens stage, adds bass detail.  More

Soulful/open- dynamic- easy.  Svs 3000 micro R.  I do NOT

get the physical body compression, but musically wonderful!

I can overblow it a little to feel it though .  I have it on the stock feet.

i think elevation would allow more volume and gain to get

a physical impact while keeping it clean.  What an enjoyable

subwoofer!!

Yep, properly integrated subs make a huge difference. It can be quite frustrating getting them dialed in, but once they click it's magic. Take your time and really tinker with your setup to try every possibility of settings and placement to get it right. I use dual Rythmik F8 which reach down to 15hz in my small room but also cross with my mains up at 100hz cleanly and can play higher still. Since these can cover that entire range easily, I run a high pass filter on my main speakers to ease the load. This system now plays so fast and clean, it's shocking.

Glad to hear you're enjoying @cdtdyes

Congratulations on your success with your first sub.  Assuming you have a small listening room since you went with the micro.  I’ve have the best experience with 2 subs but your room may be fine with one.  Enjoy!

The more impact a sub has on your sound system, the more that would indicate a system that may not be very musical. The really good systems I have heard at audio shows  and in my own room do sound different with a sub but not life changing, just more bass.

Subs were the last component I put into my system, last year....why didn’t I do it to sooner. None of my upgrades made such an improvement as adding subs = nuance, soundstage, depth, presence.

I was listening to an interview by Magico's Peter Mackay on their new S-Sub which are way out of my price point. He made a statement in the interview that caught my eye... "Not ever speaker needs a sub, but every audio room does!" I went to my local dealer...did a session with subs and without in the same system...that was that.
Worked with REL to match my speakers - my goal was for the subs not to overwhelm my speakers (Horns), but to be the background, and to make the room better...it did significantly. As mentioned - matching is critical; also DSP/Crossover simplifies everything.
