I find the sound of my Meridian G5 transport connected to a PSA Junior DAC magical. I am mostly listening to Jazz and classical music.
The sonic stage on my Shahinian Hawks seems to be wider and more transparent compared to streaming. The G5 transport does some complicated digital magic to the data stream from the CD which makes me so much enjoy the music.
A solo concert grand of the scale of a Steinway Model D puts that piano in my room. A Mahler Symphony puts me into the concert hall.
I never start listening to a CD when I don't have the time to listen it through. Because once I start it I can't stop listening anymore. I am not saying this will only happen with CDs. But it does happen with my stack.
Also, since I make music listening a dedicated event, I just like the physical aspect. Pulling the CD out of the shelf. Looking at the booklet. Placing the disc into the Meridian. Pushing the Play button.
I grew up before even brick sized cell phones were around, let alone smart phones. It just resonates so much better with me compared to swiping and tapping on a smart phone.
Is anyone still using a CD Player
I have a bunch of CDs and the Krell 505 player. I find myself defaulting to my Aurender Streamer and never listening to CDs. I’m considering getting a CD Ripper and loading them via HSD or SSD card and loading into the Aurender. Thoughts? Am I in the dark ages even keeping the CD Player?
