Michell Giro Deck and Keith Monks KMAL Record Cleaner

A friend of mine is downsizing and wants to sell both for 2,500. I know they have been taken very good care of and haven't been played in quite a while. He said he oiled the bearings on the turntable and cleaned a record with the record cleaner after replacing the pump, and said the record player is ready to be hooked up. He also has 3,000 records he wants to sell, most of which were only played once on a Thorens turntable. I think this is one hell of a deal. Am I mistaken?

The Michell Gyrodec has been made for quiet a long time, as it was released in 1982, and has gone through several revisions and refinements. And, of course, the turntable has been sold with different tonearms and this too has a bearing on value. Unfortunately, without knowing the version, and tonearm, there is no way to value the player.

i would go for it as the gyro dec can be upgraded and serviced and the monks record cleaner is still being sought out

Since OP has not answered what age the deck is (AC Motors DC motor, etc), or what tonearm is on the table, or for that if the cleaner is the older string type, I will take a contrarian view. IMHO absolutely no "deal" here, probably market correct or a little high in price, unless it is of recent production. But still a marvelous deck worth owning, and enjoying.

As Troy says, if older, it can be upgraded, but that ends up being much more expensive than buying a deck from recent production, though it can be done over time and as finances permit. It is always good to know that there is an upgrade path and product support.
