Yes great explanation from agd.i wish more manufactures would comment on thier development. As a surgeon i had to have the same policy as i don't know what the other doctor did i was not there but this is how I was trained to do it and would explain the procedure. More than one way to do things .thanks
AGD Duet Monoblocks
Considering replacing my Gryphon Diablo 120 integrated with AGD Duet monoblocks, using my Linn Selekt DSM (with Organik DAC and Utopik power supply upgrade) as a preamp direct to the monoblocks, paired with Vivid Audio Giya G1 Series One speakers. Objectives are clarity, microdetail, and imaging. Would be interested in comments from any AGD owners, especially AGD Duets owners. Thanks!

I have the Fosi monos with the Upgrade OP-amps, tuned to my liking. I would say that they sound very good. if I did not have my Pass or My Benchmark AHB2, I would settle with this Fosi. it drives my B&W 707 beautifully. no doubt about it. however, for the sake of discussion, it cannot come close to my primary amps. I guess speaker synergy is what's needed for this to sing and some of the posters above got it. I tried it all my speakers (Falcon Gold badge, ATC SCM, Klipsch, and Maggie's) the Fosi drove them well BUT cannot bring to you the realism of what the Pass or the Benchmarks can do. This I experienced it myself. So, if the Fosi sound great on your speakers, well that is all you'll ever need. |
I have also heard the AGD amps several times and I think they pass all the tests. Take a look at the reviews on Enjoy The Music. I think they are right on. I have owned a GanFET amp for several years now so I have some experience with what I think can make them even better. The preamp you use can make a big difference in sound quality. I had used an excellent solid state pre but there seemed to be a bit of graininess. I was able to fix that by switching to a BHK pre the has a tube front end. Didn't change the sound much but smoothed things out was a good addition. The other thing I did was to upgrade to silver speaker cables. It increased the imaging a great deal but I don't think it works with speakers that may be a bit harsh. If you get a chance to listen to the Orchard Audio Starkrimson Ultras you might be surprised. Don't let the price fool you they are very serious amps. Good luck and have fun. |
I agree with you -- but to be clear, I’m not saying that this is a giant killer. I agree that I haven’t seen these replace much more expensive gear, either. My point was that if these little amps are this good -- at this price -- then change is *coming.* I also agree that they are not audiophile class -- but again, consider their size and price and they are not what you would have gotten if you paid this ten years ago. Imagine a young person who loves music but has an apartment and college loan to pay for -- with a couple decent speakers, this would be a very good solution, from an audio perspective. These amps are, I suspect, a harbinger. @campoly "I’m not pushing Fosi and after actually spending some time with them, I’m certainly not going to discourage anyone from trying them for themselves." 100% what I’m saying. Well put. @joeycastillo Benchmark AHB2 is an amp I've had in this system for a while -- the Fosi's sound just as good. Probably due to my speakers, other factors, etc. And I bet the build quality on the Benchmark is better, but to me, it sounds lifeless/flat/dull. I prefer my Pass ($5k) and my modded Quicksilvers ($4k) but again, I'm not trying to compare apples to oranges. Unless it's the Benchmark, in which case, put me on Team Fosi. |
