video about taking delivery of large electrostatic panels that replaced my TADs.

While I realize that large panel speakers are not for everyone, I made a short video about getting a 400 pound crate with my new Prodigio electrostats.  They replaced my TAD’s, a speaker I swore I would never sell.

it was an exciting day for me and maybe others will enjoy it as well.

Congratulations! You will certainly have a far different experience moving from the compact/bookshelf design to the larger panel design! But you can't get the scale and sound staging from a smallish speaker regardless of genre. It's great that you moved to a big panel, not a little one. Kudos on going all in on the transition!

I'm not surprised at this development, swapping out a premium dynamic for an upper end ESL. I have several genres of speakers used in reviewing, and when any of them are set up well, they are captivating. It would be difficult to make a blanket statement that one genre is superior to another (not suggesting that is your assertion). My friends ask me, "Which speaker is your favorite?" I reply, "Whichever one is playing in the listening room!"

I have the Kingsound King III ESL set up currently in my room, and it's a profoundly beautiful sounding speaker as well. If you care to see what I had to say about it, the review is at Dagogo.com. There is a lovely fullness to an ESL that uses multiple panels versus one larger panel like a Sound Lab. I call the King III an LSESL (Line Source ESL) design. It appears the Prodigio also benefits from the multiple panel design.

As for the crates, both of the King III panels were in a single, sizable, though much less weighty, crate. The power supplies were another hefty crate. Thankfully, I have room in the crawl space for them if they ever need to be moved.

BTW, I have changed speakers so many times in 40+ years that I finally stopped saying x speaker is one I would never sell. As the industry develops new technologies and designs, there is bound to come along a new transducer that nudges out an older design. It's tough, though, when you have done a good job of optimizing the performance, then have to say goodbye. I have found that the faster I get over it, the happier I am. The performance of the new speaker helps a great deal in that regard!  :)

Thank you Douglas.  I will definitely read the review, and have enjoyed your other reviews.  If you ever visit upper Manhattan and want to take a listen, I’d be happy to, and get your suggestions for placement.

Wish I had bought your TAD but also wishing you great musical magic with new speakers !!!!!!!!
