Last night was pure musical heaven. Completely transparent. Supremely musical. Talk about being able to get into the music! One of those evenings where lights out transcends one's expectations. Sipping an adult beverage, an espresso (lol), and everything else dead quiet. I noticed part of the reason I love these upgrades. I have over 2000 CD's but the top 50 get listened to frequently and no matter how much you like a CD it can get old. These upgrades can cause such a change and enhancement I go to my top tier play list curious to "play it again Sam" listening afresh to old favorites. Occasionally the well run disk will be so transformed so as to nearly sound like a new version of the same CD. My whole collection gains a new shine. Really fun. Listening now to Jane Monheit. Incredible.
Review White Magic Digital
I finally completed the circle from my transport to Integrated amp. I had previously installed the White Magic dual RCA between the DAC (Chord Quetest) and my amp. Now I've gotten the same to connect my DAC to my Audiolab CDT6000. First impressions out of the box brought a shinny sharp (too sharp?) clarity to top frequency edges of percussion, guitars, vocals. I was very happy with this change because I've always desired a bit more sparkle and snap in those upper ranges. (Klipsch Lascala II speakers) As warned in accompanying paper work from Mad Scientists the next couple days they will seem flat but after that they will begin to reopen. (Predictive programming?) I've sensed that effect. (Psychosomatic?) Now I'm entering into the period when they say I should begin hearing the post burn in improvements. The trick in my mind is to be careful not to just crank it up and pretend to hear more detail. (Which obviously at higher volumes, I will) One thing I can say definitely so far there certainly is an enhanced clarity and that crisp leading edge has returned with a less over pronounced sizzle. Additionally the bass has somehow become fuller and more organic and impactful. (If that makes sense) While Lascalas are criticized for being too bright or shouty, mine have the tendency to be too soft. (My age? 70) The enhanced upper snap is a welcome improvement. As we all know, cables can't add anything they can only filter. These (so far) allow an critical aspect in that upper range to shine through with clean realism. AND THESE INTERCONNECTS ARE CHEAP COST WISE. I upgraded from their Black magic ones. I'll give them a week more and report back. My key impression is they are like a speaker upgrade to me. (ish)
