KAB RF1 Sobsonic Ruble Filter - Worked but feels like I lost some sound quality

My system:

Technics 1200G with Orofon black LVM

Luxman 595 MM/MC integrated

REL 830

Sopra N1s

I bought the KAB RF1 Rumble filter for MM. I did it because I have woofer excursion really bad in my set up with my Turntable... and not to derail this post into things I tried let’s just leave it as I tried everyhing.

The Subsonic filter on my Luxman helps alot but it does not get rid of all the woofer excursion... there is still some... especially in electronic music.

So I tried the KAB RF1. It did not get rid of the woofer excursion by itself. But when used with the Luxman subsonic filter, it did successfully get rid of all the woofer excursion with the turntable playing. I was quite suprised. But here is the downside.... I felt that I lost some of the holographic sound stage in my sound. Enough to bother me. Anyone else have exeperinece with KAB RF1 filter?

EDIT: Sorry for the missspelling in the title. I can’t edit it.

A high pass filter inevitably has some effect on upper frequencies, in terms of phase and the audibility of components used to create the filter. But when you run a filter into a filter (KAB into preamp rumble), all sorts of odd things might happen. In this case, you hear it.

In my experience, the KAB Rumble Filter is amongst the best filters available.  When I used it, I did not experience any degradation in sound quality as far as I could tell.  I did not use it in conjunction with any other filter - just by itself.

@dman777 ,

At the time, I was using a modified Denon DL103 moving coil, modified by ZU Audio.  I have since switched to moving magnet cartridges, a Shure V15 Type IV and an Audio Technica 540 moving magnet cartridges

The KAB filter you have has a -3dB point of 20Hz.!!! Of course, using that filter will remove a lot of the music and dynamics. Get a GOOD subsonic filter. You want something like -3dB at 8Hz. or lower. With a slope of 24dB/octave or greater. Digital filters of 48dB/octave or greater are available nowadays.

@fiesta75 Ten will get you a dozen your hearing isn't good enough to hear 20 Hz.  You are talking nonsense.  If you knew anything about filters you would know that the KAB filter is one of the best available.  What is needed in this situation is a clear picture of the root cause of the problem.
