If a tree falls in the forest…

I’m just listening to an incredible sounding new performance of Strauss’ Alpine Symphony with Edward Gardner and the London Philharmonic, which is shaking the room. The clarity, transparency and impact is thrilling.  Yet the only one who hears it besides me is my wife, who thinks I’m looney.  I just wish someone else could hear what I’m hearing.
 But alas, it’s just me.

No need to be wistful, our hobby is solitary by design. There is only one sweet spot!

I am not a big fan of the Alpine Symphony.  It has some audiophile spectacular moments, such as the storm scene , but wears out its 45 minute welcome pretty early, imo.

This is a solitary hobby.  We all have moments when we are caught up in bliss listening to something and wish we could share that feeling with someone but it’s rare.  Concerts are best because there are many other listeners and it’s easy to tell when others are as moved as yourself-or not.  One reason why recordings are unable to fully replicate the concert experience

I’ve never been a big fan of the work either, but this recording, played at a high volume, really got to me.
