You are absolutely correct. There are many ways to skin a cat when it comes to designing speakers or setting up systems. I’ve had the SET/ high sensitivity speakers set up and it can be very interesting. Just not for me for the ultimate in sound reproduction. I’ve been around a long time and heard countless different iterations of systems to move me. I can say without a doubt hearing the Autobiography speakers driven by Octave Jubilee amps, I’ve never heard anything better. It truly reflects the best of what can be done in design and delivering an almost overwhelming experience. But that’s the beauty of this hobby, to each their own. We all have our own goals as to how we want our music to sound and impact us.
Wilsons new flagship
Maybe I am getting old but Wilsons new flagship $780k and they feel it is justified,
lit gets better if you want custom paint $110,000 they said it takes 2 days to paint both speakers, Jays audio lab commented and I think it was way too much and
$110k for $300 in paint is nuts that is truly taking advantage of everyone with wealth, imo only an idiot would pay that. I guess nothing should surprise me any more !!

@cleeds @ghdprentice Many moons ago my dad had our 1955 green and white Chevy station wagon painted all white by Earl. A good while later I was tasked with washing it. I sprayed the hose on the car and did not understand what was happening, instead of looking cleaner, it looked like it was getting dirtier. The spray of the hose was striping the white paint off it.

@inagroove I think you are absolutely right that great gear can be bought for far less than these Wilson speakers-most of us have done that very thing. Certainly, these speakers are not for me. I just can't think of a single reason why I should care about how Wilson prices its speakers that I'm never going to buy-I wouldn't buy them if they had a half off sale. But I do think Wilson has every right to price its products as it sees fit. There is nothing illegal or immoral or inappropriate in their choice because no one is forced to buy. If someone chooses to pay the price, that also is a personal choice and none of my business. I have a hard time understanding what there is to be upset about. |
