Steppenwolf

Someone recently said, "I think it's time we gave Steppenwolf a second listen."

So I am. I bought "Magic Carpet Ride, The Dunhill/ABC Years 1967-1971"

I like it so much that when I was wondering what was in the CDP this morning I thought,

"That's not Steppenwolf! This is BS!"

Does anyone else feel the same?

Monster was my first Steppenwolf album, possibly first album period. I was 13 or 14 back in 70 or 71 and played it almost daily on mom's console stereo. That and Cosmo's Factory by CCR.

Born to be wild and Magic carpet ride got played to death on the radio. They were good but I also liked the deeper cuts like Draft resistor, From here to there eventually, Ride with me, etc. After hearing the song For Ladies Only one night on KAAY in Little Rock I had to have that album too. Also played the heck out of their 16 greatest hits album. I think I'll give them another listen tomorrow.

@slaw    GFR exceeded Steppenwolf in popularity but their first Top 100 hit was Time Machine #48 in 9/69. "Born To Be Wild" hit #2 8/68. Some could claim Cream/ The Kinks/Jimi Hendrix Experience/Three Dog Night/Blue Cheer or even Paul Revere & The Raiders. IMO Steppenwolf has all the check marks of an "Arena Rock" band. Always a pleasure to read comments from another serious music lover!
