Wilsons new flagship

Maybe I am getting old but Wilsons new flagship $780k  and they feel it is justified,

lit gets better if you want custom paint $110,000 they said it takes 2 days to paint both speakers, Jays audio lab commented and I think it was way too much and

$110k for $300 in paint is nuts that is truly taking advantage of everyone with wealth, imo only an idiot would pay that. I guess nothing should surprise me any more !!

@ted_b Correct, they are paying in part for exclusivity..,

Maybe yes, maybe no - they might also be audiophiles with a large disposable income…significantly larger than mine

@jasonbourne71 …with the $300K Wavac 833 tube amp!

On that note, I would love to hear the Berning 211/845 monoblock or the Lamm ML electronics.

Again, we seem to fixate on how other people spend their money. That's an aspect of the forum that I can't understand. $780k speakers are not for me. Its also not for me to judge someone as an idiot-someone who I know nothing about- for how they might choose to spend their money. I also understand that the price for the paint job is really steep. But how does it take an advantage of anyone? Wilson sets a price on a luxury item. Not an essential. No one is forced to buy. If you are like me and never going to be a customer for these speakers, why do you care what the price might be? If someone has the resources to buy these speakers and they exercise their free will to do so, why would any of us have standing to pass judgment? All this is relative. There are lots of people who listen to music everyday on their bluetooth speaker who undoubtedly believe that only an idiot would pay $5,000 for speakers.

The only way these speakers and similar ultra expensive gear will ever affect most of us is the possibility that some of the technology developed for these products might trickle down to gear that maybe we will enjoy-that's a good thing.

You are paying not only for exclusively , you are also paying for intense R&D.    People often don’t think of the research and prototyping of a speaker like that.  It is expensive and time consuming

Sonus Faber, Magico and others also have $750k speakers ...   not sure it’s worth it and if I could afford it I would not spend that kind of money.  That is L88 Covette or Yenko ZL1 territory.   Now that is money well spent.

Can you very quickly buy that 1 million dollar dartzeel cartridge...

Some 'intense R&D' went into it.....Buy it,  make haste, chop chop

You are paying not only exclusively , you are also paying for intense R&D.

Like Kerrybh said , I can appreciate these products for their all out assault on state of the art which is always a moving target.  That technology definitely trickles down in this hobby.   Especially with speakers.   That's why products like the Wilson are important.  They push the envelope on what is state of the art.
