Your turntable history

When did you get your first turntable and what’s been your turntable history since then ?

zavato

My first turntable was a GE Wildcat suitcase type.  I was 10 or 11.   Then I had several Technics P Mount, then a few with a conventional tonearm

I had a SL7 and SL10.   Then I had a long hiatus.

Got back into it about 20 years ago with a Planar 3 , then a short hiatus

In 21 I got back in, fortunately I didn’t sell my records so I picked up a SOTA Escape    I recently traded it in for a new SOTA Quasar with Full Eclipse package .

That will be my last turntable for a long time    It is a great table

Does a lazy suzan on a weekly dim sum special in a local Chinese restaurant count as a turntable? Wanted to know if I should include it in my list…

My 1st turntable was in a Magnavox console in 1965 or so.

Then 1972 I acquired a Rek-O-Kut Rodine Jr. with a wooden Grado tonearm, not sure of the cartridge.

1979 I purchased a Technics SL-DD33 thought I was doing pretty good. Still have it.

2021 I bought a Thorens TD-145 installed a Grado Gold 3 and thought I was in heaven.

2024 purchased a Thorens TD-125 with a TP-16 arm, moved the Grado Gold 3 to it.

2025 I bought a Thorens TD-125 MKII, added a Sorane TA-1 tonearm and a Hana ML cartridge.

I think I’m done for a while, just a added a Sutherland TZ-Vibe phono stage and I’m pretty damn happy.

Some sort of 60s fold out speakers with the turntable like the one Larry Campbell learned on in It Was the Music, RCA? Then a Dual 10 series and a 12 series. Then a pretty long run with a Technics, can't remember model. An MMF 5.1, which my son in law now has. Denon 47F still used, Denon 55K with Unitrac arm still in daily use. Denon DP60, sometimes rotate in, Gem Dandy Superpolytable, in use. VPI Super Prime, sold. A DIY with VPI platter and Hurst motor on DIY solid metal 3 foot plinth, like Merrill's and SME II, JVC QL Y7, Kenwood 990D, Soulines Dostoevsky with Audiomods 6, daily use. Dual 1218 w AS12 for 45s

A Dual in the 80s.  I forget the model number.

Dr Feickert Volare as of about 6 months ago.  Ive played one album on it. I mostly stream and have boxes and boxes of sealed,  unplayed albums.
