Haitink Mahler 5 on DECCA Pure Analog

Almost bought this but figured I ask if anyone has heard this reissue.

From product notes…

For this release Rainer Maillard at Emil Berliner Studios has used the original, four-track quadraphonic master tape to make a new stereo mix sent directly to the cutter head. This preserves a pure analogue path throughout. The Philips engineers of the 1970s would similarly have mixed the four front and rear channels before cutting but this downmix would have resulted in a two-track stereo copy for mastering, whereas here the lacquer is cut directly from a ’live’ mix into stereo from the four Quad channels.

Any feedback on the quality of recording and vinyl?

I’ve listened to part of the Haitink Concertgebouw 5th in the car on the way to work this morning. Not the best interpretation of the 5th, not the best recording quality. I’m still not 100% convinced it’s the same version but it’s DECCA so that’s probably it.
There’s a 5th with Haitink conducting the Berlin orchestra and that interpretation sounds better to me. Neither ended up being something I would own. So I’m glad I took that DECCA out of my shopping cart before I checked out the other LPs and completed the purchase.

I concur.  I am actually surprised that I have accumulated so many versions of this recording, although the BluRay and the CD versions were part of larger purchases, and I bought the SACD when that format was new and I didn’t have any multichannel Mahler 5 at the time.  I’ve had a soft spot for BH in Mahler 5 because he introduced me to the piece in a concert, and if there were no other recording available I could live with it, but we are so spoiled for choice

@mahler123 this is prompting me to go back to my CD rips and explore versions I’ve not heard before on streaming. So there is a positive to this discussion

Thank you all for chiming in!

I listened to the first three movements of the Haitink/Concertgebouw yesterday, from the most recent CD reissue ripped to my NAS.  It’s a very good version, and I much preferred it to the last 5th that I had heard, Tennestedt/LPO from the recent box devoted to that conductor

@mahler123 the only version of the 5th with BH and Concertgebouw I was able to find on streaming is part of this set:

I believe it’s the exact same version as on that DECCA reissue. If you have a chance to check on qobuz or tidal…thanks!
