My experience has been that most audio stores have migrated to include smart homes and home theaters. So unless I say I'm looking for a $110k purchase, they don't seem interested in spending their time letting me audition components
Visited a Store and was shunned
I live in an area where brick & mortar stores are not easily assessable to demo equipment. While traveling for business, I decided to stop by an establishment on the U.S. West coast. My interest was in the Dynaudio Confidence 20 since I’m looking to upgrade from the Contour 20i. I’m not here to name names or throw anyone under the bus, just purely to voice my frustration and disbelief on how I was treated.
I was greeted with skepticism and a general lack of interest in discussing the product. There were two gentlemen working that day and neither had any interest in answering questions or providing a listening demo. As a matter of fact, when I asked to listen to the Confidence 20 speakers one of them immediately said “no way”. Both speakers were on stands sitting next to several amplifiers so it wouldn’t have taken much time to setup.
I was intent on making a purchase that day and having the speakers shipped to my residence, but decided to leave the store based on my experience.
It’s a shame that most of us have to relay on equipment reviews when establishments such as this lack interest in the customers that support the hobby.
Sorry to hear about your negative experience. You should name the store so others know. It’s important for consumers to share both positive and negative experiences as customers. A Good salesperson knows not to prejudge a customer because you never know. Like the song says, you can’t judge a book by its cover. |
Hello @vette5451, Same experience for me on the East Coast in DE. They fatigued of my questions and lost the chance for my business. GTT in NJ is stellar and certainly did earn by business! As a side note, in one of my (family room) systems I did upgrade from Dynaudio Contour 20i’s to Confidence 20’s. A clear improvement. Honestly both speakers blew me away, and my wife loved the look of the blond wood in our room. They are very resolving, image fantastically, but what surprised me was their ability to scale up in a large room. They love good amplification and show off good electronics. My Audionet Max amps are a perfect match with their high current and speed. Make sure you get the matching stands as they are specially made for the down firing ports on the Confidence 20’s. |
I was selling gear from a now defunct store called the Sound Machine in Charlottesville, VA while going to school at UVa in 1977. Along comes in a kid about 14. He asks to listen to some pricey (at the time) B&O stuff- turntable and receiver. I do it without hesitation as, I figure, you never know. Well, the kid pulled several thousand dollars out of his pocket and paid in cash. True story. His Mom was waiting outside. |
