Who do you turn to when you have the envies for funk?

FYI, envies, pronounced on-vees, is a cajun term for when you have the need, wants or have to haves for something usually food or music. As I cull and play grade my vinyl collection I am not so very surprised by how much funky music has made its way into my collection and thought it would be interesting to see who others go to for their funk. My go to artist for the most part are War, The Meters, Professor Longhair, Earth Wind and Fire, Sly the Family Stone, J Geils/Peter Wolf, George Clinton, James Brown, and Curtis Mayfield for the most part. Please add yours as I am always looking to get more funk in my life. Thanks for reading. Enjoy the music

Ohio Players, “Skin Tight” and “Fire” on Friday Records, 180g audiophile* pressings

Zapp and Roger, “All of the Greatest Hits”

The new Bootsy Collins, “Album of the Year Funketeer” is a ripper and sounds funkier than a porta potty.

The Motet, “Totem”

Marcus Miller “Laid Black” 45rpm

These are a few of the nicer sounding funk albums that I have purchased lately.

@tooblue - cool, thanks. I used to be a fan of Solomon Burke in NY. He was accessible, we could hear him pretty easily. Roll ’n stutter. Had funeral parlors. And sold fried chicken during his shows back in the day during intermission. Guy was a classic. I think he actually had a clause in his contract at the Apollo, or legend has it, that gave him concessionaire rights during his shows. :)

I may have missed it in the lists provided - but I have to add The Isley Brothers - several albums but definitely Go For Your Guns.....  Bass is often a large part of FUNK, but the Guitar work by the Isleys is legendary.

Growing up in my teens I was into a lot of urban funk and soul especially Earth Wind and Fire. Nowadays not so much but may change later, wife still likes it though. Also got deep into the disco at its height. Used to avoid other rock like Elton John, nowadays discovering I love his music.

Ohio Players and Zapp band.  They played for my private school when I was in 8th grade.  Our head master had no idea what they were all about.  "Skin Tight" shocked the prepsters
