Galactic, hands down. Great band and lots to listen to. Start with Vintage Reserve and enjoy the exploration. They are on tour currently, can usually catch them at an intimate venue.
Who do you turn to when you have the envies for funk?
FYI, envies, pronounced on-vees, is a cajun term for when you have the need, wants or have to haves for something usually food or music. As I cull and play grade my vinyl collection I am not so very surprised by how much funky music has made its way into my collection and thought it would be interesting to see who others go to for their funk. My go to artist for the most part are War, The Meters, Professor Longhair, Earth Wind and Fire, Sly the Family Stone, J Geils/Peter Wolf, George Clinton, James Brown, and Curtis Mayfield for the most part. Please add yours as I am always looking to get more funk in my life. Thanks for reading. Enjoy the music

@winoguy17 - James Hunter is great, live. We saw him many times at the Turning Point in Piermont. He did come to Austin once--I think of him as a blue-eyed soul guy from the Van Morrison school, mixed with old school rock and roll. Marc Broussard is a killer - a bayou swamp rocker, puts on a great show. Never hunted for his recordings. We usually see him live at a small venue in Austin. |
@whart Mark Broussard is from Carencro La. which is about 15 miles north of Lafayette and if you were to have one album by him let it be SOS, save our soul II, soul on a mission where he covers everyone from Solomon Burke/Cry to Me to Wilson Picket. Enjoy the music |
Ohio Players, “Skin Tight” and “Fire” on Friday Records, 180g audiophile* pressings Zapp and Roger, “All of the Greatest Hits” The new Bootsy Collins, “Album of the Year Funketeer” is a ripper and sounds funkier than a porta potty. The Motet, “Totem” Marcus Miller “Laid Black” 45rpm These are a few of the nicer sounding funk albums that I have purchased lately.
