Shaggy rug Pet-friendly alternative to a shaggy rug for room acoustics?

Hi everyone,

I recently adopted a dog from an abusive background. While he is settling in, he has a habit of peeing on the stereo room shaggy rug, which means the rug has to go.

That rug did a fantastic job of softening the sound in my stereo room, making the high end sweet and non-harsh. Now that it is gone, the room is too reflective.

Are there any effective floor-based sound dampening solutions that are either pet-accident resistant or significantly easier to clean than a shaggy carpet? parquet maybe ? I am trying to tame first reflections without creating a hygiene nightmare.

Appreciate any suggestions?

I would lay down some absorbent pads and train him

secret is to walk the dog multiple times per day and not wait until he accumulates enough to wet the pads or the floor. This means walking him 5-7 times per day. This is how he will get trained to pee outside only.
Then gradually remove the pads and only have them on the floor for emergencies if you can’t walk him.Good on you for saving the pup!

You should look at those "Waterhog" rugs. They are bulletproof and you can hose them off, let 'em dry and repeat whenever you need.  Rubber-backed also so no leak thru.

A Dog Grooming Parlor will be able be a great help.

Book an appointment to drop the dog off and do meet the appointment and deliver the dog.

Request a return to pick up the dog in 2 Hours.

Head on to a airport and go on a Holiday for at least two weeks, on the return home problem is solved.

Otherwise get a doggy catheter and the mutt can wee where ever it likes.

@triskadecaphobic older dog or a puppy, walking this dog every few hours should erase this habit. Mean time, set boundaries so he can’t enter your listening space. Foldable gates work well. And it’s part of training.

how old is the dog?

Positive reinforcement is a good training method.

Food and a Clicker produce great results with communication.

The dog can be taught to recognise the 'Click' as the prompt to Wee on the Shagpile (especially when the carpet cleaning service has just left the home).

Each successful 'Click' that successfully produces a Wee on the Rug, will be positively reinforced by giving the dog a 8oz fillet of Steak. This really works!! Take note.

As a forewarning, the method can result in Turd being discovered on the Shagpile, or in a unfortunate bare footed discovery trod into the Shagpile.
