Vinyl Storage Options

I have a large vinyl collection that I would like to store in my dedicated music room.  I have around 700-1000 albums that I would like to store one level high.  Looking at some custom options that are running around $5,000 - $7,000.

Looking for others experiences in this regard.

Thanks.

@pryso I prefer a standard shelving array.  I want to keep it only one level high.  I’m looking at a 96” model.  I will look at your solution now and consider the points you mentioned.  I’m 66 and in good health.  Who knows moving forward though.

@bslon Thank you!

@pryso Thank you.  I’m looking at this option too.

Great stuff and thanks to everyone.  I really enjoy being part of this forum.  Many times that I was considering a major change to my system, I posted and got great feedback!

Wow!  Did you use a plywood/glue/screw approach similar to the ones mentioned in others posts?

No, all I have is extra corner bracing on the backs of the 4x4 units. The shelves have stood as pictured, fully laden, for over 10 years now.

You may want to consider Can-Am storage. I moved so I needed new storage to replace my previous built-in's for my 3000+ cd's. They also make dedicated storage for lp's. Here's a link:

They aren't cheap but are made of steel, come in many different colors, will send color samples upon request, are designed specifically for media (and other uses), are relatively compact, and can be added onto if you need in the future. What I like best is that the media are stored in strong, easy pull out drawers so they are out of sight, are close by for easy access and built to last. I am not affiliated with Can-Am at all. Good luck with whatever you choose!

@sonicoptimist Thank you.  I also have 2,000 SACDs, blu- ray music, and various collectibles to account for too.

@drlou77 if you look through Can-Am's website, you'll see that they also have 2 drawer, 3 drawer and 4 drawer media storage racks that are 6" high per drawer that are made to fit cd's, dvd's and blu-ray's. For cd's, each drawer fits 270 cd's in standard cd cases, or 540 in slimline cases, or 120 dvd's or 150 blu-ray's in standard cases. You can configure the drawers to suit your needs. They also have 8" and 9" high drawers for oversize media/box sets, etc.

Something I like is that, if you order a 4 drawer high cabinet with each drawer 6" high, you can also buy a 3 draw cabinet with each drawer being 8" high so the two cabinets will be the same height. Similarly, if you order 3 drawer high 6 inch drawers, they also make a cabinet that has two 9" drawers that are the same height as the 3 drawer cabinet.

I ordered 4 cabinets - two 3 drawer and two 2 drawer cabinets, with all drawers 6" high. They are stackable, with the recommended maximum being 9 drawers. I don't yet have the cabinets (the should be ready in a week or two) but ordered them earlier this week and plan on placing them side by side with the two sides being 5 drawers high. The height is 35". I can add a 1" countertop and the cabinet will be the exact same height as a bar that's in the same room. The photo with the fruit bowl in the link below is what it should look like if I get the countertop:

I may order another two cabinets, but if I do one of them will be the 9" height to accommodate oversize box sets, etc.

Again, good luck with whatever you choose!
