Vinyl Storage Options

I have a large vinyl collection that I would like to store in my dedicated music room.  I have around 700-1000 albums that I would like to store one level high.  Looking at some custom options that are running around $5,000 - $7,000.

Looking for others experiences in this regard.

Thanks.

@bslon Are your two rows of Kallax cubes reinforced too?

No, but some kind of backing will keep the LPs from sliding in too far in as the backs are open. I taped down cord hider to remedy that.
Horizontally, they’re very sturdy. I wouldn’t run them very high if used vertically. The interior dividers are held in place with 4 dowels, I’m not sure how they’d handle the weight of LPs if they were used as shelves.

@pryso I prefer a standard shelving array.  I want to keep it only one level high.  I’m looking at a 96” model.  I will look at your solution now and consider the points you mentioned.  I’m 66 and in good health.  Who knows moving forward though.

@bslon Thank you!

@pryso Thank you.  I’m looking at this option too.

Great stuff and thanks to everyone.  I really enjoy being part of this forum.  Many times that I was considering a major change to my system, I posted and got great feedback!

Wow!  Did you use a plywood/glue/screw approach similar to the ones mentioned in others posts?

No, all I have is extra corner bracing on the backs of the 4x4 units. The shelves have stood as pictured, fully laden, for over 10 years now.

You may want to consider Can-Am storage. I moved so I needed new storage to replace my previous built-in's for my 3000+ cd's. They also make dedicated storage for lp's. Here's a link:

They aren't cheap but are made of steel, come in many different colors, will send color samples upon request, are designed specifically for media (and other uses), are relatively compact, and can be added onto if you need in the future. What I like best is that the media are stored in strong, easy pull out drawers so they are out of sight, are close by for easy access and built to last. I am not affiliated with Can-Am at all. Good luck with whatever you choose!
