Room treatment with acoustic panels

Most folks on here consider this a no-brainer as far as it being necessary but people new to the hobby may wonder if it’s worth the expense. YES! 

I never used them before because I knew nothing about them. With my newly created system I figured I would give them a shot so I’ve been getting a lot of help and advice with them from GIK Acoustics.

I ordered bass traps for the corners and side walls. I also  bought the panels that go on the side walls for the "first reflection" spots and the panels that mount to the ceiling. 

Not everything has arrived yet but yesterday I started placing some of the side wall panels. 

Even just temporarily resting on blocks of wood while placement is finalized, the difference is extremely and immediately noticeable. Fuller, cleaner sound that makes the speakers disappear. 

Boy, I can’t wait to get everything installed! If you’re new at this and think your gear already sounds good, treat the room anyways. You will love the difference.

GIK Acoustics will refund your money if you don’t. Probably something they’ve never had to worry about I’m sure.

Vicoustics is very good. I sent them our family room pics and their model was exactly like our room. Their analysis is also free at least it was 5 years ago. I also sent GIK pics of our room and got their analysis as well. We liked the Vicoustics solution better

I have a classically bad listening room, about 11x11x10, with the door kitty-corner in the back of the listening room wall.  I sent GIK photos of all of the walls and ceiling and they provided a great 3D version of the room with treatments all over the place.  I started with Bass traps in the three corners, two ceiling panels and two diffusion panels behind my listening chair.  For about $3K, I think that I got a 30-40% improvement in sound quality.  Considering all of the debates about cables, etc., for the price of one moderately expensive power cable, I got a gigantic improvement.  I am very pleased so far, and highly recommend treating your room before blowing big bucks on marginal improvements!

I’m glad everyone is having a positive experience with the room treatments that you installed. I’ve been working with John from GIK this week, & we came to an agreement for my room. I’m going to do a full front end of my room, which is 10lb of crap, in a5lb bag.lol FWIW 2, 8"-b-traps behind each LaScala, 2-4": clouds & the 7d defussers 2x up front. 

After I settle the front, I’ll take care of the 2 base traps behind me,as per John’s recommendation. From what everyone is saying, maybe I’ll follow-up after installation.
