OP, definitely let us know your results! Also if you have the budget to compare a few power cables, especially from the Venom to the wall, could be fairly substantial. I run a Shunyata Theta XC 20 amp cable and got a substantial improvement compared to others. I love my Cardas parsec cables on all my other gear but from the PC to the wall, the theta was a massive improvement. I got a steal on two for $500 each. Have the other one running my PC (Gemini 8) in the studio
Shunyata Venon V16 or Furman Elite 20pfi

So I currently have a Furman Elite 20pfi with everything in my rig (system does double duty for music and HT) plugged into it. Including the Puron AC Power Conditioner (this thing absolutely lowered the noise floor when I plugged it into the Furman). I took advantage of the 40% off sale and bought the V16. Received it yesterday. However I see that the V16 does not offer surge protection whereas the Furman does. I did not realize this. I should mention I have my system on a dedicated 20Amp circuit and I also have a whole house surge protector. Is this a deal breaker, should I just return the Shunyata? I did read, almost unanimously, that the V16 will improve the sound and lower cross interference by isolating.
Thoughts? And should the V16 not offering surge protection be a deal breaker?

@zlone @jrareform absolutely will follow up on this thread once I’m up and running! I’m hoping to get my Magic Power cord some time next week. Definitely anxious and excited to introduce the V16 to the rig!
@jrareform I would have loved to go with a Shunyata power cord for synergy (I have Alpha V1 20A on my amp and 2 Delta V2’s on my DAC and Processor), but unfortunately the V16 stretched me too far. That said you can’t beat Signal Cables cost/performance so I have all the confidence it’ll be a great match with V16. The other thing too, is I haven’t loved Shunyata’s gripping capabilities with my gear, except for the Alpha. I have a couple Signal power cables and have found them to have the best grip of any.

I can't opine on the V16, but I have Shunyata Sigma NR v1 PC's on my pre, DAC and amp, all plugged into a Shunyata Everest. We had a lightning strike on our generator that fed back into the main panel, which was supposedly protected by a whole house surge protector, because of the way the surge protector was wired, it did not work. The strike fried my HVAC system (bad in Miami in the summer), but nothing touched my stereo system! So I can't say whether that was fully due to the Everest, random luck, or some other anomaly in the house, but everything was protected! |
