@audio-b-dog I agree the SF Olimpica Nova are not the old SF warm sound. They can definitely be bright paired with bright sounding gear.
The new MA3i is more transparent and more dynamic than the MA3. I believe it should be a nice match.
Does anyone have a digital system that is as involving as their analogue front end?
I have a good analogue front end. Not stratuspherically good but good enough for this comparison. VPI Prime Signature 21 turntable, Pass Labs XP-25 pono preamp, Pass Labs XP-30 preamp and Hovland Radia amp. It has a lovely, very involving sound. On the right recording, I just drop everythng and am drawn in to listen.
My streamer, on the other hand, is decent but not spectacular. It is better than my CD player, but it is not jaw-dropping like my analogue front-end. My question is this: does anyone have a high-end, tier-one streamer (dCS Bartok Apex, Lumin X2, or something like them) that can rival a good analogue system?

I’m not holding my breath. Linn took years to make DSMs "Roon Ready" and that was only for recent models. They don’t anything software related in a hurry. They need to accept that the likes of jPlay are much better at designing control points and make the effort to get their products to work with them. I find it equally frustrating that they won’t adapt the DSMs to render surround music files directly. Linn’s answer to that was no one has ever asked for it. Yet I was talking to a guy who told me they said the same thing to him. It’s frustrating though that they can’t find time to install two simple codes. I am kicking myself for not bending Gilad’s ear about it last time he was at an event at my dealers. Next time, I’ll collar him. |
I just ordered my Meitner MA3i from a Meitner dealer who has one on the shelf (used, upgraded) and will accept mine in trade. Can't I just use Qobuz connect to talk to it. is there a downside? The reason I didn't wait until next year is that I read a review in either Stereophile or The Absolute Sound, comparing the MA3 to the MA3i. They said the MA3 sounded dead in comparison. Then they compared the MA3i to the dCS $250,000 stack. The said that although the 1/4 million dollar dCS was obviously better, they could happily listen to the MA3i. |
Lol that was quick @audio-b-dog congratulations! Yes to Qobuz connect or tidal connect. However try it against jplay…I like the sound quality with J better. What color did you get? |
@newton_john is it a one piece Linn? Or separate streamer and dac? Reason I ask is I was chatting with another audiogon member and he mentioned Wattson Audio Emerson network bridge. It’s not dirt cheap but not outrageously expensive (I think around $2k) It should work with jplay and has airplay as well which is a cool feature to have. |
