@audphile1 Do you know how many vinyl records can be store in each cube?
Vinyl Storage Options
I have a large vinyl collection that I would like to store in my dedicated music room. I have around 700-1000 albums that I would like to store one level high. Looking at some custom options that are running around $5,000 - $7,000.
Looking for others experiences in this regard.
Thanks.

I figured it wouldn't be too long before the Kallax was mentioned Oh, and given the interior dimensions of the cubes (13.25"), I'd guess they'd store somewhere between 75 and 100 records, but someone here who is actually using it should have a more accurate estimate. |
@ctlesq Yeah, it’s really nice stuff. I was able to see it at a local shop and was impressed. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. |
I built all of mine from scratch using 8 foot pine 2x12s. If you have a friend with basic woodworking skills, a compound miter (or even a handheld circular saw) and a router (3/4" flat bit), it’s a fairly simple project to complete using basic dado joints. The nice part of constructing them yourself is that you can custom fit them to any size, and they are rock solid (unlike the Ikea options). It’s also a LOT cheaper. |
It is not that difficult to make your own. There is a picture in my virtual system with some I made from 1" finished plywood. The L-shape makes it extremely stable. Just make sure that the horizontal components are continuous and the vertical slots are in sections, except end-pieces. If you want longer sections, go with hardwood. I made a second unit built into a closet from 1" red oak with about 3 foot sections. Mechanical stability of hardwood is MUCH higher than plywood or MDF (used in Ikea etc. furniture). With fewer vertical separators, you get more storage space per linear foot. There is zero flex on the 3 foot sections even fully loaded with records. The only things you need is a track saw (or table saw) and a router. Some glue, maybe either screws or dowels. Done. |
