Vinyl Storage Options

I have a large vinyl collection that I would like to store in my dedicated music room.  I have around 700-1000 albums that I would like to store one level high.  Looking at some custom options that are running around $5,000 - $7,000.

Looking for others experiences in this regard.

Thanks.

I figured it wouldn't be too long before the Kallax was mentioned wink

I thought about using that at one point too - the price is certainly right.  But as @audphile1 said, it needs to be reinforced as it's not very stable on its own.  Not surprisingly at its price, it's made out of cheap materials and I really didn't think it would stand up to the weight of my record collection.  But lots of people swear by it and there's many videos online that describe how to reinforce it, so it might be worth a try.

Oh, and given the interior dimensions of the cubes (13.25"), I'd guess they'd store somewhere between 75 and 100 records, but someone here who is actually using it should have a more accurate estimate.

@ctlesq Yeah, it’s really nice stuff.  I was able to see it at a local shop and was impressed.  Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

I built all of mine from scratch using 8 foot pine 2x12s.  If you have a friend with basic woodworking skills, a compound miter (or even a handheld circular saw) and a router (3/4" flat bit), it’s a fairly simple project to complete using basic dado joints.  The nice part of constructing them yourself is that you can custom fit them to any size, and they are rock solid (unlike the Ikea options).  It’s also a LOT cheaper.
