The Aviors are advertised as having 9" woofers. They are measured along the curve of the cone, not the diameter. They are more like 6.5" in diameter. They do go low but I don’t think they’ll pressurize your room. You’ll probably need a sub for that.

@mckinneymike I saw your note about being interested in a pair of ARC Ref 250SE monoblocks. I have a pair, in natural/silver that I am about to put up for sale on Audiogon. Fantastic amps, which I been feeding from an ARC Ref 10 Linestage Message me if you are interested.

The bass from the Aviors was excellent in my experience and they would pressurize my room depending on music type, volume etc. It depends on what you mean by pressurizing the room as to whether you would need subs or not. As an example, when I played electronic/House music they had no problem pressurizing the room. If I played AC/DC, I would feel the thump in my chest but it wouldn't pressurize the room the same way, but it's not supposed to IMO. If you're a bass head then I'd recommend subs as the Aviors play clean, accurate with articulation and detail - not boom. Another option is to add some DSP somewhere to bump the bottom end. I did this with my Weiss Helios DAC. It's great to be able to fine tune your sound when the mood strikes! |
While I do love classic rock, I would not say I am a bass head. I do love viceral low bass which when in the program material I feel in my gut (not kick drum bass but lower frequencies) due to pressurizing of the room, which for most would mean the addition of large subs, and it will likely be required for my objectives as well. I am strictly an analog music listener for all serious sessions, but do have a digital system and do stream to find new music to purchase on vinyl. It is difficult to hear many brands of speakers without serious travel here in Texas. I am trying to narrow some choices down to then make strategic trips to listen to speakers that are within budget and the type of sound I want. I am not a lover of analytical speakers, preferring a more smooth and impactful sound. The Rockport Lynx's I heard were exceptional and so were the Avior II's but they were set up in much smaller rooms than mine. |
