Millennia Media imersiv D1

Due to the higher-than-normal failure rate on the D-1 high-path output gate and the need to eventually ship back the D-1 for the fix, I’m holding off before my purchase. It sounds like they are getting very close to a solution in the manufacturing fix. I’ll most likely purchase from them direct to try out their 14 day free trial. I left a voicemail for Danny at RAAL Requisite but never heard back from him. I’m sure he is very busy for these requests. I’m hoping it will be a good match for my Accuphase A-80.

@willywonka Interesting on this failure issue. Mine has been good and I put a lot of hours on it each weekday. I wonder if my unit will need an update or if it is an isolated issue.

BTW - Danny has a demo D-1 unit that you could listen to at home before you spend any cash, this is what I did. This DAC is not warm, and I think it would match nicely with a Class A Accuphase amp.

I spoke with Danny on Sunday and he is busy setting up his building to have a nice demo space. I am hoping that he completes it by this upcoming Tuesday so I can bring over my friend and work colleague to listen.

@kumizi I think that $8k-ish price is what new MA3i’s should go for. I do not like it as much as the D-1 which is only $500 more.

I was in conversation with someone on head-fi and he had both an MA3i and also the EMM top end DAC. He said the MA3i is about 80% of the EMM DAC.

If I end up with a MA3i or the Allnic ASRA DAC I posted about earlier, it will be from Danny at RAAL. He is the dude that informed me of all this gear.

BTW - I paid MSRP for the D-1, though I was offered a discount. I never take discounts from my friends.

@willywonka have you considered the Accuphase DAC or an SACD player with USB input that can be used as a DAC with external streamer instead of D1?

Sounds like D1 is kind of a half baked product that was rushed to market.

@yyzsantabarbara 20% improvement is very substantial when comes to DACs especially when we’re talking these price categories. But…I’m always skeptical when someone starts assigning percentage to improvements in audio. If DV2i is really 20% better than the MA3i, considering it has a built in streamer and preamp, it’s a pretty good value if all you’ve running is digital. Actually the MA3i is an amazing value already. It replaced Aurender N200 in my system, without me ever looking back.
