Do you buy new, used or new or used gear?

Typically research for months and then often wait for years when purchasing used - saving and waiting for the right deal.

Main system is roughly 90% used. HT system is used and refurbished. 

New Receiver/TT/Speakers with wedding money in 1967.

Back in the day of VCRs I bought new; TVs I always bought new, current 5.1 is new Sony TV, AVR, Blu-Ray.  The DBX speakers bought new.

Current Three 2 Channel Systems: main, office, garage/shop: ALL used except new low cost DAC in office.

Cameras primarily new, I will buy open box or refurbished by the maker which are variations of new.

Once, 1989, I surprisingly inherited $8k. I bought 3 recently announced Onkyo Integra pieces, Receiver (1st with TV band), Dual Cassette, CD Player. Onkyo rep told me I got the 1st ones to make it into the USA.

Cartridges: mix of new and used.

I restore Vintage, and have been quite lucky to inherit or been given used items.

I mostly buy new stuff but I’ve got nothing against something used if I find a good deal. 

All electronics are preowned or dealer demo.  The used equipment was purchased from TMR.  In my opinion, TMR is worth pay more for the operational verification, return policy, and warranty they provide over private sales.  However, speakers were purchased preowned as a local private sale where I was able to audition, inspect,  and pay by bank certified check on pickup rather than electronic transfer prior to sale.  Ok, overly cautious or maybe borderline paranoia.  Dealer demos were local and purchased as new with warranty.  All cabling were purchased new.  All cartridges were purchased new.  

Music server new, DAC new refurbished, preamp used, previous power amp used, new power amps new, speakers store demo. Typically has been used.  HT system, new receiver, speakers were a mix of new and used.  Luckily I owned Paradigm Studio 100's, and some matching Paradigm speakers so finishing off the 7.1 with Paradigm was a breeze, even found the correct center channel used.
